In a normal timeline, there would have been a clear strong science based response from the federal government.

For those just tuning in, that did not happen.

So the headline is a bit missleading trying to instigate rage at stupidity.

The second figure FTFA actually shows that despite an apparent ignorance of >20% of whether a stay at home order was ordered or not, most people are actually staying in. This is good news because an 80% reduction in contacts is required to adequately flatten the curve and get lower rates of infection spreading over time. Any thing higher than 20% not social distancing and the infection will start to spread exponentially again (any rate greater than 1 person newly infected by every already infected).

STAY HOME AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, wash your hands & change your clothes when you get home. But mostly, STAY HOME. Shrink your circle, get your provisions from just one or two stores to reduce your exposure, when you are out keep your distance from others, otherwise, STAY HOME.

Exactly the result for SD. As we have no order at all, it's hard to imagine people got that part confused. But maybe they are looking to the President whose guidance is kinda sorta followed here although it is inconsistent and he doesn't follow it himself. Or maybe they're listening to Dr. Fauci. Or maybe to our local health experts.

Why, it's almost as if no one in this entire farking country could be bothered to take charge of this.

One wonders what the adherence rate would be if there was clear & consistent instruction provided across the media, local governments, State governments, and Federal government.

how does google surveys work?  people who are staying at home have time to respond?  cell phone tracking sounds more reliable than a survey

I made the mistake of visiting Lowe's two Saturdays ago, and it was nuts. I should have just gone home until Monday. It seems many of the upper middle class people in my area are still working all week and have to compress things into the weekend. I was kicked off sending inventory to Amazon for the duration, so now all I have is recovering a long neglected yard.

when i lived in NJ i had a neighbor, a grown-ass adult male, who was woefully ignorant beyond belief. anything beside focus on drinking and drugs had no meaning to him at all. no newspapers, news on radio, reading news online, watching news on TV. no sir. hollow head. to this very day he's probably puzzled as to why people are wearing masks in the supermarket.

I've been in self isolation since my gallbladder decided to go bad on me I think it started in early January. I didn't seek help till first of March. I didn't have a clue at the time, I know that I was fatigued, couldn't breathe (I have asthma), wasn't hungry, couldn't walk even to the can, I had no pain just felt like I'd been hit by a Mack Truck.

The pain didn't start until I went in for a CT scan but on the opposite side of my body. I ended up the ER after the scan & blood work then 9 days in hospital but they didn't yank the dang thing, the Drs said it was too infected & to swollen at that time. I ended up w/a tube that could drain the bile out when I felt like crap or had pain again. Now I just gotta wait till they have a bed etc. for me.

So I'm waiting in self isolation...........
Of which I was doing before my Governor said so.

Now I've taken it one step further......I put on a mask, gloves & a pair of scissors (that I can wash afterwards) to open my mail now mainly because I don't know who or if they were sick when they stuffed my mail.
Call me crazy if you want I won't be offended not by a long shot.......

You might need some biscuits and gravy (do not eat that)...sorry to hear of your plight.  Narrow your diet to relieve the organ...hang on...as I understand it, no oils or grease with a bad gallbladder.  I am NOT a doctor, but I do think you can navigate this.  You will make it.

That sucks. My sister drank quarts of Mylanta and moaned in pain waiting for an orthoscopic surgeon to move to our part of the sticks back in the 1980s. She didn't want to have old-school surgery with the "big incision, on your back for weeks afterward recovering" thing. I bet that hurt longer than that recovery would've taken.

"Gone to another person's house" is a little concerning as a condition.  My elderly relatives don't get enough services to be safe and well-supplied without my help (thanks Medicaid for cheaping out on absolutely everything for the elderly and disabled!).  It's not like I made social visits.  They're pissed that Easter dinner is cancelled.  But when they really need something, I've got to go do it or bring it to them.  Still trying to keep that to a minimum, but for most of March that meant I wasn't able to isolate for more than 7 days at a time.

Yup.  I recently found out I didn't know what the rules were here--but it's not a big deal as we were already following the new rules nearly a month ago.  I've been in public three times since then, all stemming from our water heater deciding to crap out.  (I replaced it myself but that involved a trip to the hardware, then when I was almost done I discovered I was trying to make a lesbian gas line, then a third trip when I found they sold me the wrong part.)

Not when they're blind and have scattered broken glass all over the kitchen, or when they're incontinent and have no one to help them clean up all weekend until the aide comes on Monday.  Anyway, that's not the point; I'd still count as having "gone to someone's house" per these metrics is what I'm saying.

My husband's leaving the husband several times a day. He'll go nuts if he doesn't. Or I will.

He maintains really strict distancing, he just needs to see people.
