Gumball Rally is also the better movie. All the star power of both Cannonball Run films don't add up to Raul Julia.

Clocked a couple of motorcycles in the burbs west of Denver last week. Radar on one said 168mph. The other was clocked at a paltry 128mph.

or 12.3 percent more than the comparable 14-day period in January (Jan. 13-31), when just 158,510 speeding tickets are issued by cameras

When JUST 158,510 tickets were issued!? Jesus Christ, that's alot of $afety...

Meanwhile.....

While traffic is obviously better in the Seattle area, we still have the usual assholes who feel the need to drive slow in the left lane.  And yes, if you are literally doing the speed limit in that lane, you are going too slow.

The Cannonbal Run movie was created in the late 1970s by Burt Reynolds and friends, but was created with help from Brock Yates, the guy who had a big part in creating the actual race it was based off of:  the Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial race.  That race was run in the early 70's.  It was a protest against the new 55mph speed limits that were set due to the oil crisis, and implemented as a safety measure.

I witnessed that real event a few years ago when I lived in the country. My front yard was right on highway 58 in California. We had a bunch of family and friends over for a BBQ when one by one these raced out supercars start flying down the road. Zoom zoom zoom. It was quite the spectacle.

We were used to sport bikes zipping around every weekend but never close to how fast those cars were moving. Those guys are insane.

I was on the i-10 in Metairie (just outside nola) and some camaro just politely got in front of me, i was in the middle of 5 lanes, and slowed down. I didnt think too much of it and got over then i see hes clearing space for his buddies to run it from a roll in the left 2 lanes. All these cars sounded like animals. Anyhow the 90s model camaro blew the doors off the new body style he raced.  Was quite fun to watch. This was monday at about 10pm.

Yeah, I'm not falling for the speeding trap.

Fortunately a few weeks ago on one of our first warmish days before the specter of death I was reminded that motorcycle cops in my town are only here to set up speed traps and they are always  patrolling somewhere if the weather is nice.

I think they just like riding bikes and busting people.

I don't want some cop breathing in my face as he demands I take my mask off.

Speaking of wearing masks, does anyone else feel odd pulling up to a convenience store and making sure your face is covered before you walk in?  I felt like I was about to rob the place.

I'm not looking forward to going to the bank.

Yesterday morning on my way to work heading down I94 out of Wisconsin, I was doing 70 in the 65 zone, and was in the far right lane.  Not much traffic for around 7:45 in the morning compared to what it normally is.  On most of the sections of road where its a long straight, people were apparently trying to find out how fast their cars will go.  I was passed by multiple BMW's, Mercedes's, Lexus's and a variety of other vehicles, all going easily 30 mph faster than me.  Fastest thing to pass me was a Mercedes AMG Black that was headlights behind me to tail lights disappearing on the horizon ahead of me in under 30 seconds.

I drove up Lake Shore Drive today and there were two fresh sets of skid marks...one led to the cement median wall, the other off the road to the right through a fence.  Both had to be going over 100mph based on the length of them. Reminds me of the time a guy in a tricked out BMW flew by  me just before the I-55 exit one night.  I watched his brake lights swerve back and forth as he tried to slow for the turn it takes back over LSD. He left his front skirt next to the wall on the right, skidded through the turn till he hit the left side where the rest of his skirt was sitting, then across the 3 lanes at the end of the ramps turn and was trying to drive with 4 flat tires on the shoulder.  I was surprised he didn't go over the barrier at the first wall.
