A common pattern around the country is police are only making traffic stops for things they consider important. You're not likely to get pulled over for 70 in a 55 unless that's a pretext for something else. I think police are going to resist orders to start searching residents coming back from shopping trips just to bust them for liquor law violations.

I have to cross into PA and back every Saturday and I was worried about that this past Saturday. But it's on a back road and there were no cops to be seen.

It actually USED to happen a lot (in the 80s) until Delaware State Police started cracking down and interfering with the "watchers" in the parking lots.  But now, funny enough, its the Delaware State Police stopping PA residents from patronizing DE stores to limit covid spread.

In my county the booze stores are considered essential and are to remain open.

But enough about booze. What about the legal pot stores? Are they open?

Here in PA, the PLCB (the state organization which controls the liquor stores) said they were opening up online ordering last Friday.  But, this has been on their site since then.

On the somewhat positive side, you can still buy beer and wine from stores that sell them.  BUT, unless it's a beer distributor where you can buy cases, your purchase is limited to 192 ounces.

Monongalia county Wv, home of WVU has banned liquor stores in the county from selling to out of state residents to try and cut down on this. A lot of the liquor stores are in gas stations here so PA residents are welcome to our cheap gas, just not our booze.

Brings back memories, when I was young. The drinking age in PA was 21 and in Jersey 18, so there were bars all over on the state lines so PA kids could drink.

Good old Monongalia County, a place so dumb they misspelled their own name(supposed to be Monongahela, after the river, for any arsehole farker out there that uses the term flyover country in a non sarcastic mannner).

My wife and I drove from st joe, mo to caroll, Iowa last weekend to pick up my new 20 year old truck. Know how many highway patrol/sherriffs/local mounties we saw on a 7 hour round trip? Zero. It was the most uncanny thing I've ever been privy to. Oh, and Pennsylvania liquor laws SUCK.

I am heading to MD on Saturday for a run. The PLCB really dropped the ball on this one. Their "web sales" solution is a complete non-starter since nobody can access the site. Southbound and down, baby!

I used to think, hey, PA is pretty cool, I'd live there! Buy some land and have space...

Then I worked in PA and interacted with their drivers, their roads, their people...

Philly has lots of redeeming qualities, but the government is a mess, and as for the rest or PA? Forget it. They call it Pennsyltucky for a reason.

Jersey is all sorts of shiatty, for many reasons, but I have a liquor store less than a mile from my house that delivers. Just call it in and pay with a card - I leave a cash tip for the delivery guy and he drops the order on my porch.

My new thing though is that I don't drink in months with less than 31 days. So this month I'm dry anyway.

Very little of what Governor Wolfturd did makes any sense. He ordered closed mom and pop places that saw maybe 10 people per day but left Walmarts open that see 10,000 per day. He closed the liquor stores but left the beer stores open. It just goes on and on. There are going to be a lot of small businesses gone when the virus runs its course....especially non-chain restaurants.

Which is funny because as of the 1990s DESP were busting people for driving over the state line into DE with booze bought in liquor stores just over the state line in Elkton, MD.  At that time MD was open on Sundays and DE wasn't, also liquor taxes at that time were substantially cheaper in MD which I understand is no longer the case.  They had a "spotter car" in the parking lot and they'd radio the tag to an intercept car along Route 2 into Newark.

Saw this as it was going on.

It was a dog and pony show.  You don't invite all 3 local news stations out to take video of it if you want to pinch people.

If keeping people from coming to Delaware was OH SO important why was the Wegman's in Concord Twp. FULL of DE tags Sunday?

No Wegman's in DE.  So, you know.  God forbid you have to go to Shop Rite or Food Lion with the unwashed masses.

So they can come up to PA.  Saunter about a grocery store where they're going isle to isle mixing about as those dirty, filthy Pennsylvanians infect them with the Devil's virus so they can get artisan meats and organic vegetables?  Then take all of it back to DE.

I mean, I KNOW Wegman's has good soup people, but c'mon.

No Delaware Stasi, er I mean troopers stopping all THOSE people at the state line.  But oh the HUMANITY if I try and go to Home Depot to buy pre mixed trimmer gas for my weed wacker....


Some Wegmans stores cut hours further yesterday and implemented limitations on the number of people that can be in the store at any one time. When I arrived at the store, I was in a line 8 people deep and it took about 5 minutes for 1-in1-out to take place so that I could go in.

A Liquor store in Pennsauken, NJ closed for this very reason. They closed for deep cleaning, reconfiguration of the store, and reopened a few days later.

Sorry That was the PA county not the WV county.  Get your Hick history right.  And we can always tell the outsiders because they cannot pronounce the names, or use the name on the map.

Meanwhile, in California I can order margaritas to go.  This is also the first time I have had a beer to go in a Coke cup with a straw.
