Based on "greatest moderator", it was either him or Chuck Barris. And I think Chuck Barris is already dead.

If Stephen Colbert asked me whether Drew was a great moderator or the greatest moderator ever, I'd refuse to answer on the basis that being passed out on his private e-mail server in the middle of the day is a sign that he's a massive alcoholic and, consequently, is not even great.

I'm actually not using a plugin currently although I typically install Ghostery & AdBlock but I recently got a new laptop and just didn't get around to it yet.

In any event, I still remember the days when you could surf the web & not every site had the clap.

I read the story of his death on NBC News, and long story short, he may have accidentally gotten JFK killed.  The Secret Service hadn't decided if the bubble would be on the President's car, so he asked, and it reminded them that it needed removed since it wasn't going to rain.

Otherwise, no other blemishes on his record.

You're talking about the Washington Post, which is one of the United States' two newspapers of record. As such, they have a bit more responsibility to proper journalism than making a bunch of interns slap together some content for a penny a word and toss it up on the web in the hopes of getting a few bucks from ad impressions. WaPo pays actual money to competent people who follow standards. Turns out you can't support that with just ads.

Journalism is like anything else. You get what you pay for. And yes, I'm paying for a subscription for it, the NYT, my local paper, and The Athletic.

That all aside, surely there must be a free source for a damn obituary.

I honestly did not think of that.  I saw a WaPo logo and didn't go any further.

That is a good tip though.  For those times that important information is in the link.

One from the actual days of TV journalism. Sucky how it's change so much for the worse. In Jim's time network nightly news was an hour long while local would come before and of course at 11. Most cities had two newspapers. Now most places have local news dominating broadcasts ( and with it the political views of the conglomerate that owns them as well as the side hustle of selling news time as ad space ) and one if any newspapers. PBS Newshour is still around but it is slowly, inexorably becoming less relevant and more beholden to the whims of corporate interests. Perhaps for a guy like him dying during this era is sweet release.

/ At least he outlasted one of the show's donors (Koch).

Businesses have to generate revenue. Things have changed because newspapers used to have advertisers and print subscribers who provided enough revenue to cover the expense of content generation. So the providers could afford to put content on the web for free. The problem with that, of course, is that once there was a free option to get the content, revenue from print subscribers who were paying for the content dried up, and then Craigslist took away the classified ad revenue, and Google keeps a share of all the other ad revenue, so the content creators all find themselves in a massive revenue crunch that selling more ads doesn't fix.
