While it doesn't really apply in this case, there is a reason why that "You're so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece!" In Full Metal Jacket is funny.

To be honest, it's fairly amazing that sculpture got there in the first place. Bribie Island in Queensland is roughly the US equivalent of a Florida city with a high proportion of retirees who've moved there late in life.

I like the sculpture. Reminds me of another Australian icon...

Maybe, but he is right.

I have a standard:  If I could, with my non-existent talent for sculpture, painting, drawing, etc., conceive and/or reproduce something similar or identical to what is called "art", then it's not really art.

This piece does exceed that standard, and honestly I don't see the big deal either way, but then I'm not an aging woman named "Lulu", either.

Got an education while watching British Antiques Roadshow, yes I'm old, a few years back.  A person had brought in some works of art an ancestor had sketched and painted during the impressionist period.  They were of incredible quality, similar to Monet in style.
The appraiser said "Quite good, really, but since the painter is unknown, only worth a few hundred pounds."
It's mostly about the artist's reputation, apparently, and not about skill or talent.
