Why haven't they just blown the whole dang project up yet?  They will eventually have to do that anyway.

There must be a better way to take down those cranes.

I'm torn between wishing they would do this during the work week when I could see it and the knowledge of how bad it would fark up traffic near my office.

My guess is the two unrecovered bodies.

Sure, but how long is it going to take to get ships that can launch Tomahawk missiles into the waters off New Orleans?

Yeah, you're right, I wasn't thinking, they might get hurt.

I was invited to a crane implosion party on the 20th floor of one of the nearby buildings but it's two hours away, and it's my anniversary, so I had to decline. I've been promised pics and video.

I don't get this at all. Cranes help build buildings (well, possibly not this one), then the company that owns them removes them after construction. Unless I missed something in the story explaining why cranes go in, cranes don't go out, can't explain that.

Um...a significant portion of the building has collapsed and it's not safe to climb up and dismantle the cranes.

That works well when everything is structurally sound.  These are badly damaged and are likely to collapse of you start to take them apart.  Also, they're likely to collapse in an uncontrolled way in the coming storm, so there's a time limit on how much engineering you can do.

You believe controlled demolition of damaged, unstable cranes is standard procedure?

It is my understanding the building will be leveled eventually. We got the call Tuesday to close out our part of the project so we can hopefully get paid. Not that we had much going on. We've been waiting on RFIs and submittals. Not that we normally are heavily involved in  decision making early on. Which can be bad when we have to point out inadequate released or installed equipment.

There are very few problems in life that cannot be solved through the proper application of high explosives.

What may be the funniest portion of any video in the history of man is after they blow up the whale and people start cheering.  For about five seconds.  The transition of cheers to OMG WHAT HAVE WE DONE! as whale chunks start to rain down is unmatched for comedy.

The still standing half will be a treasure trove of information on materials and techniques used in the construction.

They want to find out what happened before blowing up the remaining evidence.

If dynamite isn't solving your problems you aren't using enough of it.
