On one hand, you should be able to stay in your parked car as long as you like and have no obligation to free up a parking spot even though all parking spaces are occupied.

On the other hand.  I hate with a passion people who know you are waiting to get into their parking spot who take their own sweet time getting out of it.  I saw you put your bags in the trunk.  I saw you get into the car and start it up.  Exactly what else are you doing that requires two or three minutes to complete before you can put it into reverse and get the hell out of the way?  Of course as soon as you give up and drive past, they immediately pull out of the spot.  Bastards.

Yep.

Because you've been sitting there with your turn signal on since you saw me walk up and pop my trunk three minutes ago, holding up a line of traffic behind you because you want to snipe this one perfect spot.

So I'ma gonna sit there and be a jerkoff because you started it, and I have nothing better to do.

He meant that when one of Those People "look at" one of our women, it's stalking.
Cuz. they're, you know - predators.
What's the world coming to when one of our pure, virginal women can't summon the police for help when she's being stalked by a predator?

A long time ago, over 20 years, I used to go to Walmart as a vendor to assemble bicycles.  Each day, I got there early, got a close spot, and after done working, took my cart of tools back to my truck, put the tools away, push cart back to a coral, and head back into the store to get paperwork finished for my day's work.  Most of the time, I would have someone pull up, waiting for my spot while I loaded my tools up, then get really pissed when I went back inside.  Um, I had to do it that way.  Once my tools are out of the truck, they stayed in my sight till I put them back in the truck.  Getting the paperwork finalized required walking around the store, without my tools.

In recent years, I've also had people get mad because they see me get in my truck, and not move.  Um, I'm waiting for my wife.  I'm not leaving without her.

Maybe people are being jerks, maybe they're finishing up some texting before getting back on the road.  To this day, I consider everyone who stops, blocking traffic for a spot to be a jerk.  The world shouldn't stop for you to park.

I'm usually hauling a baby carrier and 4 year old.  Sometimes I get out of the car and go back to get napkins and water, then clean up the vomit and spilled juice, unload the garbage, chase the 4 year old down the sidewalk, then come back and seal everyone into the car.

Then I get on the phone, figure out where we're supposed to go next, set the route, argue over what kind of video or music should be playing, then eventually look around and see if I can pull out or not.  If there's a meter in that spot, I've probably had to buy more time.

DO NOT expect a dad carrying kids around to get out of that spot quickly.

Ultimately this is a training issue, and not just for the pig that did it.

The dispatcher needs to be trained that you DO NOT send a pig if there's no crime.

"Ma'am, you've stated that a black guy is driving around near you and might be taking pictures.  That's not illegal, if you call us about it again I'll send the pigs, but not for that guy, I'll send them to arrest you for abusing 911."

Let me get this straight.  Pearl clutching white woman was in her car in broad daylight, where she could both lock the doors and, you know, drive away, and she thought the best course of action in dealing with a black man who had not approached or engaged her in any way was to call the police?

Rookie cop is an idiot.  Supervisor needs better de-escalation skills, and props to the chief for owning the departments screw up.  Also props to the cafe manager for providing a neutral witness.

I recall a bit of a study/survey where they observed cars in a parking lot (this ran around the holidays).

They would then time how long it took for the person to enter the car and vacate the space.  The made notes of the time when no one else was waiting for the spot vs. when it was clear someone was wanting for the person to leave to then take the space.

the avg. difference between the two groups was 30 seconds.

so yes, they are making you wait because they can.  I'd like to think this is some unconscious thing, but we humans are really bastards to each other sometimes.

It's not illegal to sit on a park bench and talk to someone, is it?  Even if it makes someone uncomfortable, right?  Because some stupid lady around her misused the 911 system to report a guy in a park making conversation with her and her daughter.  The stupid cops came out anyway to investigate.  I mean not much to investigate, the guy was just talking.  But it turns out that the guy was a sex offender and wasn't supposed to be in a park.

But for those jackboot lickers, there's really one simple rule that always applies, and that they need to learn:

The pig on the street is always wrong, and always an asshole.

This case is exceptional, because the chief pig actually admitted fault.  They almost never do that.  Apparently this chief pig is in that 1% of pigs that aren't bad.
