If more coal miners switched to Esports, we wouldn't have Trump in office...or something.

My reasoning is flawless...shut up!

I was born in the wrong era. My parents got to make snide comments like "There is no money in playing those stupid video games" and, "There is no such thing as a professional video game player!"

Now my kids see other kids getting college scholarships for e-sports.

To be faiiiiiiirrrrr....

Your parents were mostly right, even in this era of monetized Youtube channels and e.... "sports".

These people are mostly just freakshow celebrities making a name for themselves as outliers. There may come a day when playing video games equates to real sports, but, even then, success in real sports today is  defined by freakshow celebrities who left thousands of other people in their dust a long time ago.

Yea, you can make a lot of money by being an elite video game player, just like you can make a lot of money by being an elite athlete. But, in both cases, your odds of being a sad-sack loser are way higher than your odds of being a millionaire playboy, even if you put all you've got into it from an early age.

tl;dr version: There are a lot more Uncle Ricos in this world than Tom Bradys, no matter what game you play.

You...you know esports is a real thing with multi million dollar tournaments and professional teams, right? Renault sports has one. The likelihood of growing up to be a pro esports player is about as likely as growing up to be a pro basketball players, but those are still a thing

That's true, mostly. Most games, you probably don't have more than ~100 or so people who are good enough to make future-planning money from them (1v1 games like Starcraft probably have closer to ~50). But there are so many games now that will pay salaries for high level players. Even players that don't get livable salaries can make several thousand a month from being a <game> grandmasters player on Twitch.

But that said, your original point stands. If you've got your heart set on getting picked up by an org, you might as well be dreaming of the NBA.

Renault Vitality

FTFA:

Renault Vitality are Rocket League Championship Series champions after defeating G2 Esports in the RLCS Season 7 finals.
The squad consisting of Kaydop, Fairy Peak, and Scrub Killa beat Australian team Ground Zero Gaming and lost to G2 in the group stage, but it was enough to see them through to the quarterfinals. On their path to the finals, Vitality defeated the North American region's top two teams, NRG and Cloud9, before facing G2 again in the finals.

Yeah, I don't know about these things.  I just thought it was a fair question so I googled it.  The date matched up so I ran with it.

My effort was sincere, ...... but sincerely flawed.

Apologies

It's a multi-game event.

Based on the image he is on Team Liquid and won the CSGO title.

And my event I meant the ESL organization. I don't know if the event in question in France was multi-game, but ESL runs many games so a couple on the same date aren't surprising.

And it isn't even similar to a Jolly Rancher. Jollies are roughly cylindrical in shape.
