There's a lot of wrong I'd do before I carried a gram of anything for some white-collar sh*theel.

There's no dental insurance.  It's a discount program.

We'll see what tune you're singing when you've had an impacted nerve ending for a week and you're ready to put a bullet through your skull to make it stop.

I once went to a dentist to have some teeth pulled and it was during a period of no insurance, so I paid 100% out of pocket. So then a few years later I need some more teeth pulled, and I found almost no difference in the out of pocket cost.

I asked them about it, and they clued me in - depending on which insurer I had, there were different prices for each procedure. This ensured they made the same amount of money from each procedure, regardless of insurer. Makes sense from a business standpoint, TBH. And I'm sure to some people this was obvious, but it never occurred to me.

Sure, dental insurance gives you free stuff here and there like exams and cleanings, but it's largely pointless.

Oddly, went just this year because I finally decided to fix a couple teeth. I felt great about the care - but not TOO great. It's certainly disconcerting - have to get a new dentist.

Dental insurance is a bigger farking scam than herbalife.

Oh it covers 40% of the cost? Better bump the prices by 50% I needed a tooth pulled years ago, it would have cost me a bit over $300 using my insurance but they said they could do it for $250 if I went straight out of pocket.

I have dental insurance, for whatever reason, but I still go to the college for my regular cleanings because it's $15.

Can't be as bad as vision coverage.  I did the math way back and the amount I could wring out of my vision plan was about the same as what my company paid into it on my behalf.  The "insurance" company could never lose money on any policy and every policy for a person without vision problems was pure profit.  Maybe it's changed since then but I doubt it.

I was going to make a joke about expensive prescription drugs, but I see that was what they were moving.

However I will go with: well, there goes the entire dental association in VA, but luckily, no one will notice.

I'll have to disagree on that front, but I wear contacts/glasses. I also have a pretty generous vision plan. It's $20 a month for my whole family and that's an eye exam and $200 (each) towards whatever corrective thing you wear and 25% off above that.  Currently I'm the only one that needs corrective lenses, but it still saves me about $50 a year in the long run, given that contact exams run about $100 without insurance.

I moved here from Florida. Virginia Beach MIGHT be Florida, but a lot of that comes from the sailors that are stationed here, in my opinion. At least we drive better than the morons from Maryland....

Oh yes..  you can tell who the squibs are by the ridiculous cars purchased by young sailors with a paycheck and no bills.
