I know it would have killed the tension in the scene...but if he turned around, grinned, and said, "Ta-daaaa!" that would have instantly made it one of my favorite movies.

I am glad to see the tissue wasn't wasted.  Getting compatible tissue is very difficult so it is important to maximize it's utility to save as many lives as possible when there is a willing donor.
