Ladies and Gentleman of the jury, I'm just a Caveman. I fell in some ice and later got thawed out by your scientists. Your world frightens and confuses me. Sometimes the honking horns of your traffic make me want to get out of my BMW and run off into the hills or whatever. Sometimes when I get a message on my fax machine, did little demons get inside and type it? I don't know. My primitive mind can't grasp these concepts.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to post snark about this one. These two assholes disfigured & disabled a woman for life, and in part drove her husband to kill himself, and yet can't even be bothered to feel enough remorse about it to fake participation in their own rehabilitation efforts.

Anyone with background on the case know why the non-rock throwing person(s) was convicted?  It was a 4lb rock, I'm assuming it was only thrown by one person.  Did the others just plead guilty without counsel?  Seem like pretty harsh sentences for any sort of plea deal.

Probably because participants in a felony murder are all guilty of it.

That is a strict rule, for sure.  I get the reason for it, but sometimes it doesn't seem like the best course of justice.  Right now, 5 young boys/man are facing the same charges.  One, likely the only legal adult threw a rock off an overpass, killing a man below.  The boys with him are also facing felony murder charges.  If they were all involved with throwing objects, okay, I get it.  If only one or two were throwing rocks, maybe the others shouldn't face the same charges.  I wouldn't let them off for throwing a rock, and not hit someone, because they were taking the same chance that they could've been the killer.

Doesn't there need to be a murder for that to apply?

Don't get me wrong I'm not in defense of the assholes, I just think the sentence seems oddly harsh for the other involved parties.

See the Wikipedia article. The intent is protection of life. Doing something which might hurt a person will be severely punished if someone dies. A classic example is someone having a heart attack during a bank robbery. That specific person was not chosen to die and the weapons were not intended to cause a heart attack. So it's not the classic first degree murder situation, but this rule causes it to be a different type of murder.

But, again, there is no death/murder here.  I fully understand the rule.  I am not a lawyer so I really don't see how see how what you are saying applies in any way.  Maybe I am missing something here and all of the boys conspired to hurt someone by their actions or they instructed the guy to throw that rock at that car...I get the main actors punishment, but not the others.  Especially that they were tried as adults.

Being severely brain damaged seems a fate worse than being murdered.  I don't know how her cognition is, but the article indicated not great.  That whole family has been damaged because these assholes thought it would be funny to hurt people.  fark them in the ear especially since the parole board ruled they've learned absolutely nothing from this ordeal.

We are supposed to strive to not base our justice system not on emotion, but on the rule of law, and hopefully a people who are not emotionally invested in the outcome of the case at hand.  We do horrible at it but the idea should be something we care about.

Do you think any of these idiots with no criminal records had the intent to smash some poor person in the face with a rock? Do you think they got caught because they knew they farked up and went back to the scene, twice?  Let's make then 12 year olds, any thoughts on that?  Maybe 8 year olds throwing rocks at "old man ____ barn" but one makes contact with their kid with a lottery losing shot that kills or maims them?  Send them to prison...that will make the world right again.

Funny how family of maliciously murdered victims have more reason in their head than internet posters on fark. Just don't biatch about how all of the infrastructure is failing around you because locking people up for life is the states burden and you pay more for these dipshiats than you do your own child should you be one or have one.

I know, right?  This bleeding heart nonsense has to stop!  Just because we lock up more people per capita than any other nation on earth just means the work has only just begun.  We are close to the high estimate for North Korea, but they are making NK greater every day so we don't really know that number.
