Yeah, came here to say the same thing. They also think the death numbers are 'normal', despite there being an increase in overall deaths last year. Normal as in regular flu deaths and the people who died in car wrecks that had Covid making it a Covid death. -they really are like flat-earthers now.

Don't forget that, according to their 'logic', hospitals are reporting flu as COVID to get extra funding.

/or that Bill Gates can now use the COVID vaccine to give people his nanoprobes or something, so he doesn't need to create a new flu variant to make a 'vaccine' for

Moving forward, maybe mask use during flu season will become more of a thing. Even though the non N95 masks are porous enough to let some virus through, they seem to greatly reduce the amount of vapor disbursement.

Lol, nope. The flu has PLENTY of wild reservoirs, primarily migratory birds that do a great job of spreading it over vast distances, which infects pigs and chickens, and other animals that humans interact with and then it makes the jump from them to us. But hopefully mRNA vaccine tech will make it so that the flu is no longer a killer among humans.

The deep state, big pharm and elitist scientist had to do something. We figured out real quick that covid was just another flu. Because they wanted to get rich forcing everyone to get free vaccines for "covid" that had to make it look bad so they made the flu look good. study it out

Interesting, most of our instructors usually get the locker room mung about mid december. Its a Cough that doesnt go away til the snow melts and things warm up. No sign of it this year cause of masks being required and per management and common sense, we dont stay in the locker room for more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time.
Couple that with not going to the bars and cooking and eating at home, and
It's an easy price to pay for staying healthy all winter long.

2021-02-25 4:24:24 PM
Or, the doctors are just classifying all of the actual flu cases as COVID to make Trump look bad and get all that lucrative COVID money.  I heard doctors actually get individual checks of $50,000 for each COVID case they diagnose, probably from Soros or something.

I've been wondering how much all the masking and social distancing may be reducing the spread of other respiratory bugs aside from COVID.

In a normal winter, I can count on getting at least one or two good colds.  Occasionally I get the flu, but usually not, since I always get the flu shot.

This year though, since we all started masking about 9 months ago or so - I've had nothing.  Not even a slight case of runny nose or sniffles.

I know I'm really tempting fate here, like commenting on a no-hitter in progress.  But I still find it interesting.

Some of the KN95 and KF94 masks have tested at >98%, with the caveat that this applies only to the mask itself until the effectiveness of ear loops vs face straps at actually keeping the mask on your face can be confirmed. Still better than cloth masks, let alone no mask at all.

It would potentially prevent me from getting others sick but wouldn't potentially prevent me getting sick? The mask doesn't work differently when you're inhaling and exhaling.

For going to the post office and a few stores on a Saturday, definitely.  But not for daily use during flu season, that would get too expensive unless masks get down to $0.25 per mask or less.  I'll probably stick with my washable cloth masks for work every day.

Our youngest is at a daycare with 6 kids and 2 adults. Due to their ages (0-3) they are not required to mask nor is it really practical. Parents mask at dropoff/pickup, the adults mask, and there's pretty strong community support for masking and distancing around here. None of the kids are even getting sniffles this year, and usually it's pretty much sniffles all winter long. Pretty amazing, actually.

If anything it all shows how strong the coronavirus is; that we've stopped cold and flu season dead, across the country, while COVID runs rampant.

Million dollar question, do people care? Because it's sad it took c19 to do this.
Society just accepted the flu killing people.
Who told people to get a flu shot and then shrugged off the deaths, as personal choice.
It took c19 to see how stupid that was.

Isn't it common knowledge that masks reduce the amount of Coronavirus you're spraying around to others without protecting you? That's why everyone says "my mask protects you and your mask protects me"

We took the virus very seriously around here. Mrs. Carte is at great risk. We did get flu shots and have stayed at home almost all the time (groceries, doctor appointments, and of course Mrs. Carte's hair appointments).

As with others, no sickness of any kind.

What the experts predicted had played out, and what they prescribed has worked.

It's been boring as hell.

Flu never stood a chance. There are at least enough people acting smartly and other measures in place to crush its R(eff). I think the flu vaccine will become more important going forward though. If it becomes less common, folks might have more severe reactions if they don't have regular exposure. Get your damn vaccines!

I have two kids, one is almost two. She got us the common cold. Probably from touching everything she runs into and unnoticed random object licking on our outdoor trails. (We all tested for COVID to make sure.)

Man, I wish my kid's daycare was like yours. 4:1 ratio for 0-1-year-old room (8 kids total, including my daughter), then a bunch of other classrooms with 10 kids each. Adults wear masks but kids don't.

I didn't get sick from March through December. Our daughter was born in October and started daycare in January. Took us 3 weeks to get sick (5 negative COVID tests between wife, myself, and daughter, so probably a cold).
Now, heading into March, we just got over our second cold.

Conclusion? Masking and distancing work. Little kids are wonderful at sharing their germs.

Yeah, I got a cold in mid-March 2020, about as late as one could get it without being worried that it was actually 'rona and, knock on wood, haven't gotten anything since.

/Fun fact: I used to work on a cruise ship and would get a cold about every six weeks. But after I got home and got over the one I caught on the return flight, I didn't get one again for about three years because my immune system had become so fantastic.
//And then it was about four more years before I got two in the same year.
///After that I had to admit that my virus definitions were out of date.

I had the worst "flu" of my life in February 2020. Two weeks of hell followed by four weeks of lingering symptoms. Since I'm halfway between asia and the US, I am suspicious it may have been covid.

I guess you assume the flu historically only ever circulated amongst now mask wearing liberals?  If anything, this seems to suggest mask compliance has been extremely high, high enough to virtually eliminate a disease we'd all accepted as part of life, but it isn't a very effective way to control the spread of COVID.

The more interesting question to me is even if COVID retreats to the background, how do we ever justify taking the masks off if they've been shown to have the potential to save 50-100k lives from influenza each year?

It's very obvious when you've got the flu. p
People were still considered dumb assholes if they went out in public with a spreadable virus. Alternatively, COVID-19 typically doesn't show symptoms so most people never know if they have it without testing.
