That's sad that there is a word for people who die alone and undiscovered for some time.

My grandfather died in his easy chair, and wasn't discovered for a couple days. I know that really affected my dad. He died right before my next to last final, but at least he died around people who loved him.

I know that I won't.

No. I am simply an island.

If I planned on taking my own life, I would have done it years ago, and taken some dirtbags with me. No such luck.

I had a disfiguring accident when I was younger and humanoids are incredibly cruel about it. "Oh! So THATS how you got so ugly! HAHAHAHA!!!" Wearing a mask over my face sure helps a lot.

Last April, when I was living in a homeless shelter that kicked us out 12 hours a day, I took to hanging by the river feeding the ducks. Nobody talking to me. It was the happiest I had been in years. Realizing that made me really sad.

But at least I will never have to see my abusive Mormon relatives again. They went out of their way making sure I felt unloved growing up, even before my accident. You know, just like Jesus would.

Pre-covid, huge part of my job involved interacting with people: one-on-one Reference, teaching information literacy sessions, college committee work, &c., and I was (hopefully still am) reallyfarkin good at it.. I could bring a sparkle and a glow to showing students how to search for the same farkin article, on the same farkin topic, for the same farkin assignment, over and over and over, because I had something to offer, and especially because the thing I really cared about and worked hard at, was helping students realize they were a whole hell of a lot more capable, and had a whole hell of a lot more to say, and deserved to be heard and listened to a whole hell of a lot more than many of them had ever been told they were and did for most of their lives.  I was a living, breathing, walking safe space for all the square pegs on campus, and we had a lot of them, in all manner of shape, size, and disposition. So when I got home at tnt end of the day, it was my chance to retreat and recharge. I have a small circle of friends, many of whom I keep at arm's length about my own inner life and battles with a world that wants to hammer me into a round hole, too. It was OK. It felt like balance.

But working from home for the past year, cut off from all those faces and voices, all those ideas and questions, all that struggle and need, has thrown me so incredibly off-center, and the past few months especially have been a real struggle.

I've worked on reaching out to people who care about me a bit more; imperfectly, but I try. I've managed, with a very rigorous Covid precaution and testing protocol, to have a rather profound sexual awakening, which has brought some moments of real bliss in and among the many, many nights of heartache, trauma, and tears. I've stood up for causes that matter to me, alongside people who matter to me, in mostly virtual, but occasionally physical, spaces. I've put in an effort.

But I am so weary. I miss people so much more than I ever thought I would. I know I'm hardly unique in that, but sweet holy hell is it difficult to keep dragging along. Yeah, yeah, I'm a tough old biatch and surviving is what I do, yada yada, but it's gotten to be a heavy burden.

Still, I'm a lucky girl, on the whole. I've got a lot more security and a lot more resources than a lot of people do, and they're are people out there who care about me. Even if they're far away..

I just really want to show them simple, weird kindness in person again.

Small animals and strangers online are kind to me.

People who actually know me in real life, well, eventually they become toxic people I can no longer have in my life.

I've gotten used to it. I know I don't deserve to be treated that way, and so do they, but I get tired of being reminded of the scars I avoid looking at.

I lived in a town for 25 years, half my life, and after my brother died I moved away, and there is not a single person I ever need to see again, except for my dead brother.

I took care of my brother dying of AIDS, because everyone else in the family was willing to let him die in the gutter. I had to take care of him, because I knew there will be nobody to take care of me. Our relatives proved me right.

But maybe someday I will magically turn into a unicorn or mermaid, and finally discover what has been missing all these decades.

Not every little boy gets to be President, or an astronaut. The universe still unfold the way it was meant to.

I can understand how some Japanese are lonely.  Years ago I was sent there for 2 weeks for training on some equipment.  Was talking to one of the Japanese who spoke English and a small piece of the conversation went something like this:
"Do you see the same people at the train station every morning?"
"Of course"
"Do you ever say Hi to them"
"No"
"Really!?  Never say Ohaiyogozaimasu or ask if they watched the baseball game last night or anything?"
"No, never"
"Why not? You might meet someone you like and become friends?"
"We don't do that in Japan"
Apparently in Japan, unless you're introduced to someone by a mutual friend you don't talk to someone else.  Struck me as kind of odd but it helps explains the loneliness issue.

That's awesome. I wish I had been built to be able to connect with people like that. It's nearly impossible for me to have friends, and while not truly lonely in my craziness, I know how much I'm actually missing out on in the real world.

I watched until 0:35. Let me guess: No, Westerners cannot be hikikomori because we have entirely different cultural frameworks? You didn't just assume I was somehow calling myself one, did you? Because that would be incredibly pretentious.

Newsflash: Autistic Westerners usually have some interest in Japanese culture. We're around people who do random, crazy shiat all the time that can seriously freak you out, you're always at risk of a public meltdown here in America; whereas in Japan, people are expected to be orderly, polite, not draw too much attention to oneself.

And for the record, I can't stand most of their cartoons. Great video games though.

You are not alone.

It is difficult out in the "real world" because there are horrible people, and monsters. Sometimes that is all I meet, and it wears me out, but it is a beautiful world, and I know somewhere there are good people doing good things, in their own quiet corners of the world.

Take care.

Gross National Happiness (wiki)

GNH has been described by critics as a propaganda tool used by the Bhutanese government to distract from ethnic cleansing and human rights abuses it has committed.[53][54]

The Bhutanese democratic government started from 2008. Before then, the government practiced massive ethnic cleansing of non-Buddhist population of ethnic Nepalese of Hindu faith in the name of GNH cultural preservation.[55][56] The NGO Human Rights Watch documented the events.[57] According to Human Rights Watch, "Over 100,000 or 1/6 of the population of Bhutan of Nepalese origin and Hindu faith were expelled from the country because they would not integrate with Bhutan's Buddhist culture."[58] The Refugee Council of Australia stated that "it is extraordinary and shocking that a nation can get away with expelling one sixth of its people and somehow keep its international reputation largely intact. The Government of Bhutan should be known not for Gross National Happiness but for Gross National Hypocrisy."[59]
