\not seeing the problem

I used to work the late shift on ScanJet support, so I'd leave work after 11pm most nights, provided I didn't have a special project that required internet access (1998-99). One night, I was using a city street to avoid overnight construction, and got to one intersection as a red light. Turned green, and I was about to charge through, but my doubting mind always clears the intersection. A blanked out car with severe front end damage goes through where I would have been. Being before everyone had cellphones, not my problem since I didn't get involved. But damn, it's just past 11pm, you're nursing home a drunk driving accident? When did you get started?

TFA says this bright spark was initially pulled over for dim headlights.

He chose his flashlights....poorly.

Very poorly.

Do you really expect someone who has a busted car to buy two lights for $500 each?

But wait, was it one of those super bright tactical flashlights that can survive being frozen inside a block of ice, dropped from a helicopter and then run over with a ten-wheel drive truck?

At a minimum, change the batteries before you set out.

Or use wind turbines. I was going to say solar cells, but found out recently they only work during daytime.

This reminds me of a friend of a friend who was too cheap to buy new windshield wipers and just put socks on the metal poles and secured them with rubber bands.

After pulling the driver over, the trooper discovered that they were not headlights per se, but large flashlights duct taped in the spots where the headlights would normally be.

Still less obnoxious than super-bright headlights on a high wheelbase SUV coming the other direction.

/Now I can't see anything but the afterimage, never mind the road
