Statue was last seen pursued by a bald, obese man, an effeminate man with bulging eyes and a European accent, and a woman with multiple-personality disorder.

"The eight-kilogram gold creation studded with 763 diamonds and appraised at $930,000 was going to be the final prize in an international cancer fundraiser."

Wouldn't $930,000 in research do more to find a cure than some gawdy trinket a rapper might buy and trump wishes he could afford?  This is why we can't have nice cures for cancer.

As an expensive prize, it was probably going to the person who donated the most money.
So I'm guessing donations of tens of millions for a total of around a hundred million.

Shore reported it was taken in May 2016 by what the court describes as "unknown assailants" as he placed a knapsack carrying the statue in the trunk of his car.

I was trying to remember what was shady about this story and there it is.

Money in cancer research is probably already at a saturation point, so another million wouldn't make any difference.  At this point, salaries for the people running fund raisers and managing things is getting excessive and will only get worse if you throw more money at it.
