18 Behind-The-Scenes Stories From 2018 Movies That Sound Fake, But Aren't

From heart attacks to Lady Gaga, this list has everything.

1. Christian Bale's intense method acting on the set of Vice might have saved director Adam McKay from a heart attack.

2. Bradley Cooper improvised the "ugly" line during the argument scene in A Star Is Born, and it "devastated" Lady Gaga.

3. Lara Jean's lock screen in To All The Boys I Loved Before was not planned, and was actually a picture taken on set of Lana Condor and Noah Centineo napping together.

4. While Elsie Fisher landed the role (and a Golden Globe nomination) for Eighth Grade, she didn't get cast in a production at her own high school shortly after filming.

5. Thor's epic entrance on the battlefield in Wakanda at the climax of Avengers: Infinity War was originally written to be Captain America's big reveal.

6. Toni Collette almost didn't do Hereditary because she was tired of doing "heavy" films all the time.

7. Millicent Simmonds suggested John Krasinski sign "I have ALWAYS loved you" instead of simply "I love you" at a climactic moment in A Quiet Place, and the suggestion made Krasinski cry.

8. Joey King had filmed a scene eating burgers right before a scene playing soccer in The Kissing Booth, which caused her to get violently ill on set.

9. Frozone’s wife, Honey (who we never see on-screen), was originally going to make her first on-screen appearance in Incredibles 2, but creator Brad Bird decided against it.

10. The corsets Emma Stone wore while filming The Favourite were so tight (and historically accurate) that her organs physically shifted.

11. Jude Law practiced a magic trick to make a card disappear and reappear in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald because he read it in the script, only to find out it'd be CGI'ed when he got to set.

12. While Black Panther was the breakout hit of this year, Wesley Snipes actually tried to bring the hero to the big screen for the first time back in the mid-90s.

13. After the release of the trailer for Spike Lee's true story film BlacKkKlansman, the REAL David Duke contacted the REAL Ron Stallworth because he was "concerned about his portrayal" in the movie.

14. Tom Cruise insists on doing all his own stunts (including flying his own helicopters), but severely injured his ankle while filming Mission: Impossible — Fallout.

15. Brad Pitt's cameo was one of the most talked about moments in Deadpool 2, but he was paid little more than a single cup of coffee for his time.

“We just thought, ‘Oh my god, what a perfect idea for a celebrity cameo. Who is the hardest to get in Hollywood? Let’s call him,'" producer/writer Paul Wernick said. They decided on Pitt, who agreed to work for scale (the minimum amount of money designated by an actor’s guild) and a Starbucks coffee. “We got the coffee, Ryan [Reynolds] came in and gave it to him. It was hilarious because he kind of forgot that he asked for it."

16. Henry Golding originally turned down the opportunity to audition for Nick Young in Crazy Rich Asians because he thought it called for "a legitimate actor."

17. Cher was never asked to be in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again...she was TOLD she was going to be in it by the head of Universal Pictures.

18. And finally, Mary Poppins Returns is filled with many practical effects (aka stunts performed IRL rather than with CGI), and Lin-Manuel Miranda described performing one of these effects "the hardest 10 seconds" of his life.
