The Bronx-born rapper will pay for the burials of all 17 victims who perished in the Jan. 9 fire, which tore through an apartment building as a result of a faulty electrical heater.

The 29-year-old — who will be working with the mayor's previously announced $2 million Bronx Fire Relief Fund — will also cover repatriation expenses, as some of the victims will be buried in their native country of The Gambia.

"I'm extremely proud to be from the Bronx and I have lots of family and friends who live and work there still," Cardi said in a press release via People. "So, when I heard about the fire and all of the victims, I knew I needed to do something to help."

"I cannot begin to imagine the pain and anguish that the families of the victims are experiencing, but I hope that not having to worry about the costs associated with burying their loved ones will help as they move forward and heal," she continued. "I send my prayers and condolences to everyone affected by this horrific tragedy."

The victims of the fire ranged from 2 to 49 years old, and the cause of death for all of them was smoke inhalation, per BuzzFeed News. The majority of the victims were from The Gambia, and some had even emigrated from the same town.
