from may 12-20 2020, NYCxDESIGN will bring designers and design enthusiasts from all over the world to new york, making the city that is already home to more than 8,000 design firms, 800 museums and galleries, and 10 internationally-renowned design schools, the de facto design capital of the world. in 2019, the event attracted over 300,000 attendees to 400-plus events, generating $110 million in revenue to businesses throughout the 5 boroughs, just from visitors. the 2020 edition is expected to be bigger and more experiential than ever.

now operated by SANDOW, the innovative creator of media, technology and service platforms for the design and luxury industries, NYCxDESIGN will evolve into a year-round platform for design, culminating in the may festival. the eighth-annual celebration of design will feature more public activations, focus on emerging design talent, and provide new insights into how design can provide solutions to issues facing our world.

a more expansive 2020 festival is just one part of the vision for NYCxDESIGN. in november, the program will launch a comprehensive website with fresh content and resources. NYCxDESIGN is also planning a new series of talks and podcasts featuring voices from the industry while a bi-annual magazine will debut prior to the festival in may. additionally, the company will collaborate with other organizations and events to encourage more brands and designers to get involved in an experience available nowhere else in the world.

to prepare for the next chapter of NYCxDESIGN, members of the NYCxDESIGN steering committee have formed a strategic task force to facilitate idea generation and execution. group members include representatives from new york city economic development corporation, times square alliance, parsons school of design, wanteddesign, female design council, american design club, and design pavilion.

also providing expert guidance to the organization is a new advisory group comprised of design-world luminaries including: caroline baumann (director, cooper hewitt, smithsonian design museum), john edelman (chairman of the board, design within reach), stacey feder (CMO/hudson yards, the related companies), kinjil mathur (CMO, squarespace), david rockwell (founder and president, rockwell group), and ruben toledo (renowned illustrator, artist, & stage designer). representing the spectrum of creative disciplines, this group will ensure the festival encompasses perspectives from the creative community at large.
