‘It’s Not a Choice:’ Syrians Flee After Turkish Forces Bombard Their Homes
Since Turkish forces attacked Kurdish-controlled territory in northeast Syria, almost two thousand refugees have fled the country. We spoke with some of them in Bardarash refugee camp, across the border in Iraq.
Syrian refugees are fleeing into neighboring Iraq. We’re driving near the border, following this convoy that’s carrying almost 300 Syrians across Iraqi Kurdistan. They arrive at this camp, set up years ago to house the displaced from earlier wars. Now, it will accommodate a new wave of refugees escaping Turkey’s attack on northeast Syria. Some have traveled days to get here. As they wait to be processed, we take a moment to chat with some of the families. Reporter: “He’s a little ill.” Almost 2,000 refugees have already left northeast Syria in the last week. Camp organizers say that they’re preparing for 50,000.
