The TAG Heuer Carrera collection is famous for the various editions of chronographs, but it has a few elegant timepieces to offer without the sporty function. This year, TAG Heuer launches an all-new version of the Carrera Date, redesigned and with an upgraded movement. Please welcome the new Carrera Date 36mm, which comes with fresh and colourful new dials.

No doubt TAG Heuer fans remember the recent introduction of the Carrera models, none featuring the chronograph function – the Carrera Date 39 mm, Day-Date 41mm and the Twin-Time Date 41mm in 2021. Though it seemed like the first time the company deviated in such a manner, TAG Heuer produced simple, chronograph-free three-hand Carrera watches with a date indication in the late 1990s and quite recently, too – including the Calibre 5 automatic Carrera Date 36mm, in the Carrera Lady line. There is no need to remind you the original Jack Heuer-designed Carrera chronograph from 1963 featured a 36mm diameter case, which was a good enough size for the men of the era. Sixty years later, the compact dimensions, reserved for ladies only for decades, are back to satisfy both sexes looking for uncompromised athletic elegance and style.

At Watches & Wonders Geneva this year, the brand signals the rebirth of the Carrera Date collection. Starting in April, TAG Heuer will offer four new references in a 36mm stainless steel case with a matching H-shaped bracelet featuring classic folding clasps. The first three models to be released are distinguished by three dial options with a sunray-brushed finish – signature blue, pastel green, and warm silver. The fourth, to be introduced in May, comes with a bright pink dial and a snailed finish.

The new Carrera Date watches are exemplary in keeping the racing-inspired design codes in place. Note the raised track with quarter-of-a-second markings around the dial’s periphery, tone-on-tone with the dials’ colours. With their new vibrant colour dials, the watches are sporty and stylish, with an elegant contemporary silhouette accented with a polished bezel and a bevelled, domed sapphire crystal. The case is only 10mm thick, the crown has been redesigned, and a few other refinements make the watch look and feel better when worn on the wrist. The legibility is perfect, as with any other Carrera model; gold or rhodium-plated applied indexes and gold or rhodium-plated faceted hour and minute hands with white Super-LumiNova are typical Carrera. The date window at 6 o’clock is large enough to serve the purpose, well-proportioned with the rest of the dial.

While the previous Date reference was powered by a Calibre 5 automatic movement with a 38-hour power reserve, the new series gets an upgrade with a Calibre 7 automatic, based on the Sellita SW300, capable of running non-stop for 56 hours when fully wound. Again, the watches are offered on a steel H-shape bracelet, with a folding clasp with double safety pushbuttons. The collection retails for EUR 3,200 after taxes.

  1. Nice size and good looking watches, but 3200€ for a Sellita SW200 watch? Thats Grand Seiko money

  3. It’s the 300. I still think it’s not worth it. But what GS is that cheap?

  4. Ah true the SW300. You can get many GS Quartz models for that money, even GMT Quartz movement.

  5. Your technical specs say 100 m water-resistant, but the case back says 50 m.

  6. – Date wheel doesn’t match the dial colour
    – Hour hand too long
    – SW300
    3.200 € for that ? LMAO nope.

  7. So for the same money you can get the Nomos Club Sport Neomatik, which serves the same role, but has four times the depth rating an inhouse movement, and actual collector cred.

  8. I own the pink dial, it is brilliant…Tag is always going to have its haters but this watch ticks every box and is a fraction of the price of an OP actually see for it yourself before judging these pieces.
