He first fought in the UFC in the early 2000s. He got 3 wins and lost a decision to Matt Hughes. Afterwards he left the UFC and fought in smaller organizations until TUF became famous and he returned to the UFC in 2005.

From 2005 to 2010 he only had 8 fights and yet he was a household name and a star that is still remembered to this day. I for some reason thought he had 20 fights, tons of title defenses and retired winning few fights in a row. But in reality, his second stint in the UFC was not very active and for some reason he is very well known.

Funny enough, tons of fighters in the UFC that have been vets for many years and in Diegos case, over a decade. But whenever Sean fought, he had countdowns and got interviews everywhere and was pretty much on demands in media. But once he left the MMA, he left if on all fronts.

People focus on his grappling and intensity, but his striking was CRISP!

Would have many KO'S if he didn't have T-rex arms!

More than K1 Hughes!

With everything thats going on the last thing i expected was a thread discussing the intricacies of Sean Sherks fame but here we are

He was only out of the ufc because they didn’t have lighter weights. At one point he had only loss to champions and had the look. This was also durring the tuf wave so
He had that. Being the first champ when the lw came back and being one of the first roid guys makes him hard to forget.

plus BJ putting that beat down on him makes him hard to forget lol.

Sean Sherk...a "household name"...LOL

He was a somewhat recognizable name, when the sport was still going through a growth spurt, and the LW division was an afterthought. He's best known for being "that guy who BJ Penn fucked up"

He had an awesome nickname. Kinda like how the FBI comes up with goofy names for serial killers to keep them in people's minds.

His philosophy on food is interesting....he doesn't care if it tastes terrible, food is only for fuel, nutrients, and efficiency,...nothing more,...its not sitting out enjoying the fucking foie gras and escargot,...food is to be taken down for fuel,...that's it,...enjoyment of 'food' has absolutely nothing to do with it lol.

back when every main card fighter was fairly known. not to dipshit casuals that claim to train ufc, but for the fans that watched the fights.
now there are people on the main cards and I'm like who the fuck is that (look them up and they've fight 4 times already). it's hard to really behind guys that are fairly new that aren't title contenders only because there are so many good fighters now and nearly none getting any push from the ufc other than Dana giving them a shout out if they are lucky

I miss the days when I knew every fighter on the card. I remember Sherk's awesome fight against Tyson Griffin.

That's what happens when you have a good nickname

I thought it was Matt "Bring on Badr Hari" Hughes?

He was the hero of time which was a diss by Donny but whatever. I mean hey, Donny made a video about him and here we are now.

Donny told us that Sean Sherk was the hero of time.

How the hell did he fight at 170

Yep he could have easily made 145.

Hell if he shed some muscle, he might even have been able to fight at 135.

His only losses came to former, or future UFC champions. If Diaz best Sherk he would have been awarded the W against Condit.
