Is Romero's title shot the most undeserved in a major promotion?(UFC/Pride/WEC/Strikeforce/Bellator)

I cannot think of a time when a fighter has gotten a title shot while being on a 2 fight losing streak or worse. Romero is 1-3 in his last 4 fights and has missed weight twice. The only title shot I can think of that compares to this is Couture's title shot against Sylvia at HW while coming off a TKO loss at LHW but at least that loss was in a LHW championship match and Couture was a prior champion at LHW and HW.

Looks like Paulo Costa is going to come back sooner than later. So that brings things back to order.

1. It's not confirmed that Yoel will be getting a title shot.

2. He arguably beat Whittaker and lost a close decision to Costa. If both Costa and Whittaker are injured, then it makes sense that Yoel is next in line.

I love Hendo and I agreed with his title shot based off of the totality of his career.... but he was what like 3-6 going into it?

Edit: The final title shot vs Bisping - He was 3-6 in his last 9.

Not with Jared Cannonier on a 3 fight winning streak including 2 top 10 wins it doesn't.

He still wasn't on a losing streak or lost the fight before his title shot.

Not even close....

McGregor Vs Alvarez
Sonnen Vs JBJ
Nick Diaz Vs GSP
Hendo Vs Bisping

Hendo by far. And I love hendo.

Wilder vs Fury is

Gus got a title shot after Rumble beat him up.

Holm got a title shot after losing 2 straight fights.

Not close to as undeserved as Brock or Chael (vs Jones)

None of those fighters were on losing streaks while missing weight half the time in their last 4 fights. All of those title shots are more deserved and Sonnen was a late replacement, it wasn't planned.

I forgot about the Gus one, that's in the top 3 IMO with Couture's shot vs Syliva and Romero's vs Izzy if it happens.

I wasn't thinking about WMMA since I don't really watch it much, but that's the only one that seems as bad as Romero's potential title shot.

Nothing has been set yet. I have a feeling Costa will fight Israel and Romero will replace Whittaker vs. Cannonier. At least that's what I hope things will turn out like lol.

I hope so too, that would be much better.

Hiromitsu Kanehara was 2-3-1 going into his fight with Wand. That one seemed set up to get Wand a an easy W.

I mean yeah it's not a great look having Yoel get a title shot after 2 losses, but Cannonier hasn't earned anything. If Yoel's last 3 fights were against Branch, 50 year old Silva, and Hermannson, he'd be on a 3 fight winning streak too. Yoel's been in there with only the best of the best, and was a bad decision away from being champ. Costa 100% deserves the title shot ahead of him, but if he's injured and the UFC doesn't wanna wait, it seems reasonable to me that Yoel is next in line. Really they should just wait for Costa to be ready though IMO.

Kiyoshi Tamura is even worse! Wand had some cupcakes. 3 L losing streak. Much worse.

Couture had a bad one too.

Romero's looks bad on paper but considering how close his last 2 losses were I don't mind as much. Romero has proved he's an extremely dangerous fight for anyone, and with the injury of Costa I don't mind that they give it to Romero.

It's pretty bad but not as bad as 2-3 while missing weight twice and being on a 2 fight losing streak, at least IMO.
