Most violent, brutal and gory game you ever played?

Manhunt
God of War I + II (havent played the other ones)
GTA 4 (I live in NY and its pretty insane what this game allows you to do)
Gears of War games (very visceral combat)

Currently Doom (2016) is probably the most violent game out there. I feel like the line between what im doing and how it makes me feel has never been so close, with a game before. Fuck Virtual Reality. Hail DOOM.

Honestly, it's hard to tell nowadays. Is DOOM more extreme than MKX? I don't know. Does RDR2 qualify, because you can literally splatter every individual limb on any given NPC, even though few will care to take the time to do so? I think we're at the pinnacle right now, where nothing really stands out.

You have to go back to the past. "Soldier Of Fortune" was...unique at the time.

SoF 2 made something no other game in future allowed you to do. Each body part was independent and reacted differently for gunshot, almost like real life.

Reason I'd put DOOM over MK9 and on is because the violence is never ending. You're constantly ripping and tearing whereas MK's most brutal moments are just that, a moment.

I think RDR2 might've taken up the mantle. I was pretty shocked at what that game allowed to to do. I'm not sure about the technological aspect, but you can blow legs and arms off in a similar fashion, and the NPC's react accordingly. The reason SOF came to mind, was because RDR2 reminded me of it. Only thing they could do to make it more real, is have the NPC's live longer if you shoot/blow off a non-vital limb. You can shoot an arm or a leg off(or both), but they'll just scream for a few seconds and die. They could easily ratchet that up by having them crawl around, and cling to life, and let you torture them even more.

It also kind of speaks to how desensitized we are, that a very realistic game like that, doesn't even register in how detailed it can get in it's depravity. Even though it's dated in it's graphics and animation, SOF leaves the bigger impact in our minds, as opposed to something way more advanced.

You can do some pretty messed up shit in RDR2.

Yup. If you just go all out sandbox, and test it's limits, it can get downright fucked up. That game is as depraved as you want it be, and it just kind of came and went without any big stink over any of it, other than some guy making vids with him feeding a feminist to alligators getting flagged. You can do so much more than that in RDR2.

While its fairly tame by todays standards, Chiller was by far the most gory and violent game of it's time, imo. It wasnt violent, bloody fighting or anything. It was just straight up torturing people in the most gruesome ways possible (for the time). Torture chambers, racks, guillotines, etc. And this was in 1986, when games like Outrun and Rygar where the most popular things at the arcade.

Back in the day Soldier of Fortune.

About 25 years ago Rise of the Triad was among the most violent games out there.

Manhunt 2 was banned in some countries and had to be reworked and censored to be released. It takes the cake. Received an AO rating IIRC.

manhunt series was the shit. i just played the first one a few months back. very unique gaming experience you cant get from another game

While you're absolutely correct, I think the difference is that RDR2 doesn't encourage you th play that way. If anything, it agonist discourages it (getting in trouble with the law etc).

With DOOM on the other hand, there's no way to avoid the violence. It's an intrinsic part of the game. And it's fucking glorious.

Soldier of Fortune was similar in that one of its main selling points was the realistic dismemberment.

But with RDR2 you could quite easily play the game to completion without seeing anything too savage, if you so choose.
