Would this means the end of an era? I'm a grappling fan and a grappler myself but I cannot deny that I like to watch this type of high-level striking. What's amazing is that this type of striking is not really optimal for MMA but this guys are just so good that the make it work and it really looks pretty cool.

Same as Machida and Wonderboy. Elusive striking is pretty cool, it works for them because they been doing it since kids plus both are very skilled but I think this era is pretty much dead as well.

Same argument can be made about Mayweather in boxing. Do you see another Mayweather raising anytime soon? I highly doubt it.

i doubt izzy gets past kelvin let alone beat whittaker. let alone romero losing to borrachina. izzy could beat borrachina. would be a usual fight between two over hyped middleweights.

Takedown threat only works when you have sick offensive wrestling (like Khabib). Most wrestlers can't get past lay n pray / GnP in the guard.

So what does that mean?

It means without the TD threat, your wrestling is neutralized with good TDD. Then STRIKING becomes important again, and people like Anderson/Stylebender won't go away.

For now, only a handful of fighters like Khabib, maybe Tony Lee, have sick offensive wrestling. Their TDD threat is real. Striking is still king.
 
So if those guys lose fights, it means they won't fight anymore?
 
the real question is: where are the great capoeira dance fighters when you need them?
