Just wanted to give a heads up to the F12 people that I've opened up my new academy in Tysons Corner, VA. We're located in the massive CrossFit Rubicon gym at 8500 Tyco Road, Tysons Corner. Tons of parking and..... SHOWERS! lol.

When the Silver Line of the DC Metro opens, we'll be within walking distance of the Spring Hill station.

My good friend, Brendan Raedy, and I are the instructors for all the classes. Both of us are black belts and both of us were D1 wrestlers in college.

Our schedule is as follows:

Monday: 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm (Gi)
Tuesday: 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm (no-Gi)
Wednesday: 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm (Gi)
Thursday: 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm (no-Gi)
Saturday Open Mat: 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Awesome!

Glad to see you back to teaching, Dave.

Thanks, guys. I've been sort of a jiu jitsu nomad the last few months training (and sometimes teaching) around a bunch of places in the DC area: BETA, Yamasaki, Capital, Tiago Gussini, Jiu Jitsu Now, etc. but it's really nice to have a place to call home.

Several other academies (Tony Passos, 50/50, Leo Dalla, etc.) were also very welcoming and invited me to visit, but I didn't get a chance to go. (Too many schools... Not enough time!!!) I've really appreciated all the camaraderie and support. It's been great! :)

Congrats! Tysons is the place to be. You should do extremely well, and I wish you the best of luck.

Very cool that Brendan will be assisting you too. I hope to stop in when I'm healthy again and train with you guys.

Thank you so much Dave. For others on the thread, I got my blue belt from Dave back in 2003-2004 when he was a brown belt teaching out of the Gold's Gym in Chantilly. It is quite a surprise, and even more an honor, to now have the opportunity to open up a place of our own as black belts a decade later.

I just want to echo Dave's sentiment about how welcoming and inclusive the DC BJJ scene is now, particularly compared to what it was like 10 years ago. I know we both have many friends in the area, and I look forward to continuing and strengthening the positive enivronment that has taken shape over the years.

The school is located at 8500 Tyco Road in Vienna. We have class tonight at 8pm in the gi, and tomorrow night no-gi also at 8pm. After a break for Thanksgiving, we will hold an open mat on Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. I hope catch up or meet folks from this forum at any or all of those times!

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me on here or email me at [email protected].

See you on the mats!
Brendan

Awesome news Dave!

We (your friends from Pendergrass) will be up soon!

Congrats on launching a new gym. I like that the classes are late in the evening which gives me more time to travel south to Tysons Corner. Will stop by and support your gym.

Its really great for everyone involved. There was the American Fight Club or whatever guy in Tysons for a while, but I don't really know anything about him. Never met any of his students, never seen them compete, etc. Basically not really part of the BJJ scene.

Then we had a couple of our guys teaching in the LA boxing in Tysons, but again its not really the same (and they're not there anymore anyway).

This is great for BJJ in the area as Tyson's is such a hotspot and missing a legit bjj place is ridiculous. Having it run by two open and cool dudes is just a bonus. I was thinking of bringing someone in and opening a gym in tysons a couple of years ago and it always shocked me that no one had done it yet.

Congrats, and I wish you guys all the success! Also, if you guys ever plan to do a dedicated wrestling class I'm sure you could find plenty of people to fill it up.

Plus your brother-in-law lives like 50 feet from the location. lol.

What's your drop in rate? I'll be in Reston for work 6-10 January, I'd love to swing by and take a few gi classes.

ha yeah I'm sure he's excited about it. No more excuses for him not to make it anymore, especially now that he's "retired." :) I may finally get to roll with him when I come by.

I'll be teaching no-gi on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 8pm, and will cover wrestling extensively. If there is sufficient interest, I'm sure Dave and I could exlpore the possibility of expanding that and having a wrestling specific class. I wrestled at Centreville High School in Fairfax County in High School and at the University of Virginia in college, so I would be thrilled to see the program expand in that direction.

Congrats guys, really enjoyed the class/rolling session I took from Dave earlier this year, seems like a great instructor.
