Prefer a spotter and someone to talk on 5 minute rest ?

Or get in , get it done, get out?

Much prefer a faster pace shit-n-git style with no interruptions.

But ... my son recently got the addiction and has been tagging along. Don't mind the company and like sharing hobby time. We are at 2 different energy and strength levels so I also don't mind when he skips a day or 3 lol.

Have to say that working out at gyms is overrated having done it for years. Covid forced me to invest in a home gym as it did for many others and I actually Like it better.

I prefer training alone. I do my own programming, and unless the training is doing the same program, it can get in the way. That said, I don’t mind training with a partner from time to time, and I’m happy to offer any advice when solicited.

Lifting with buddies is fun but I end up doing more talking and bullshitting than exercise. Having the ability to workout at home has been awesome.
Odd enough, gym buddies aren't life buddies. 2 different peoples. Life buddies are PITA in the gym, usually lazy. Gym buddies are weird in public.

I have a good friend from highschool that turned out to be a good lifting partner when we got into the jiujitsu and lifting in our 20s. When I lived in TX I worked out with a guy that played college ball with Ricky Williams....he was strong as shit and offered good pointers but he really just wanted to maintain some of the strength he built in his younger days. He pretty much just fucked around the whole time and would do one set to failure on 3-4 exercises then walk around and shoot the shit with everyone else in the weight room after he finished. Nice guy, awful training partner.

I do everything alone. I never really used a gym partner outside of my boy when we were in our 20s. He died a few years back. I am back in a commercial gym because it's too cold in the garage during the winter. Everyone is a dickhole in the commercial gym during peak hours. I just put on big headphones and pretend I don't see/hear anyone. I saw this best getup this morning though. This kid had his thrasher hoodie on, a face mask and angry music. He looked like a ninja.

I've gotten used to my home gym and won't be going back, but people watching is the only real upside to a public gym for me. Doesn't outweigh the negatives, but the occasional smoking hot chick or hilariously dressed dude sometimes makes it worthwhile.

I don't mind working out in a commercial gym when it is empty but gym etiquette is really bad nowadays.

Yeah, empty public gym is great. But poor etiquette is what made me pony up for my home gym in the first place. No more waiting on assclowns using the bench for flutterkicks, dumbell curls in the squat rack, blasting their shitty music on a boombox or tying up 3 pieces of equipment with their "superset circuit." Once there was an overweight chick obnoxiously reciting some motivational speech to herself while walking 0.25 mph on the treadmill and another chick singing along to her zumba soundtrack you could hear from across the room. Never going back to that shit.

Was forced into commercial gym after the flood in '16 . Joined for 2 years while building house. Used to love football season. Sat, Sun, Mon night of a big game and the gym was empty outside of a few girls escaping and the 4 of us dudes who don't watch ball sports.

I like having a lifting partner. He’s also one of my main training partners so we are both on a very good understanding. Plus similar levels of strength.

A lifting partner like that is pretty great. Last time I had that was college buddy on the Judo team with me in the same weight class (and about same strength). We'd lift together after practice and sometimes on weekends, push each other, shoot the shit, go out and talk to girls, etc. Good times.

But that's hard if not impossible when you're all grown up with different jobs, schedules, goals, etc. Unless you're at an organized workout class like crossfit where everyone is doing the same workout, people are all over the place. Just look at the random wacky shit you see people doing in public gyms lmao.
