seems that he's a former dem that essentially joined the Republicans because he thinks the dems have gotten soft on crime and abandoned the American dream (IE: they don't want success to come via hard work, they just want to give it to people they like), at least that's what he's said.

yeah he doesn't seem super radical necessarily, but we'll see. THe rep he's targeting (Horsford) is in a very competitive district, so it's possible Vargas ends up in congress if nominated particularly because apparently Horsford just got caught having an affair.
