Kattar vs Ortega

Cool. Im sure the UFC would love to make these fights if the fighters would sign the contracts.

Ortega is probably about to take another 2 years off from the ass kicking he just took.

I honestly think he should consider retirement because he has taken 2 life changing beatings in his last few fights.

Yeah this is the fight I started talking about/wanting to see the moment last night's event ended. Stylistically intriguing and guaranteed war. Makes sense from a rankings perspective, too. Obviously booking him against Max doesn't make sense even aside from his injury. Yair would be fun, but doesn't have the same potential IMO. KZ is being talked about for the title shot. Only other reasonable option is Josh Emmett and I feel like Kattar would be a heavy favorite and shouldn't really have to fight down the rankings again after that performance.

If Giga had won I would have wanted to see him fight Yair for the hilarity of seeing the two of them try to outkick each other for five rounds straight. As it stands, he needs a step down in competition along with a solid layoff. Shane Burgos, Dan Ige, or the winner of Yusuff/Caceres all seem like decent choices. There's always Evloev, but that's a super risky matchup for him.

Ortega vs Kattar
Giga vs Yair

Giga needs to step down in competition, so I would replace him vs Emmett. Any combination of these four (Ortega, Cattar, Emmett and Yair) would make sense.

Why? He is still young and in his prime. He is probably never going to be a champion in the UFC but that doesn't mean he should retire.

I think Ortega has dangerous finishing power but outside of that is...actually kind of trash

Almost all of his victories are come from behind submission wins, and he was trounced by Volk and Holloway. Kattar looked massively improved against Giga, and pretty big too. I doubt he'd get bullied by Ortega, and his fight IQ was on display last night. He takes a decision in a 3 rounder against T-City

I think it would be in his best interest. He just got his face literally broken again. These are dangerous injuries when you're and MMA fighter, and have absorbed the punishment he has. If he fights Katter I can only imagine the damage he's going to take. It could be life changing.

I know he's young enough to continue fighting, and making money, but I also think he should really take the future quality of his life into account.

Ortega's main weapon and the reason he's an elite FW is his ability to absorb shitloads of punishment. This is not a good trend and it's really starting to add up.

Did he look massively improved because he got massively better or because of the opponent? Giga Chikadze is no Max Holloway.

I am down, was thinking about it last night as I lost my bet to Kattar.

He hung in there with Max. Just because Holloway is an absolute force to be reckoned with doesn't mean Kattar did THAT poorly.

Look at the 2nd round of the Giga fight. He was out-landing Kattar by a decent margin, but Calvins pressure diminished the impact of those strikes since Giga was constantly backpedaling. Thats the only round I personally gave Chikadze, but I was in no way surprised when the scores were read in favor of Kattar. He landed the harder strikes in round 2 and never stopped moving forward. Him losing to Holloway just shows that there's levels to this

Holloway >>>> Kattar >> Giga

You didn't explain to me how Kattar looked improved in this fight. All you said was say Calvin did things that Calvin always does and it worked against Giga... What did he do differently this fight to show massive improvements in comparison to the Max fight? I don't see it. I just see a different opponent whom he matched up better against.

I really expected Giga to be more accurate and technical. Kattar was changing stances, kept Giga guessing with feints, and never allowed him to settle with constant forward pressure.

You're spot on that he just "did what he does", but I certainly didn't expect the round 1 takedown. His fight IQ was on point, and he was able to "do his thing" for 25 consecutive minutes. Idk how that isn't massive improvement, even if it's in the areas where his strengths already were. For all intents and purposes, Giga was the superior striker coming into the fight, and he was thoroughly handled in that regard

Definitely would have "fight of the year" potential both guys durable as hell with no quit in them
