Nick Diaz: Became a star in Strikeforce after winning 6 fights there and becoming the champion. Had a 3 fight UFC run with mixed results and then he didn't compete for 2 years between 2013 and 2015. After a single fight against Anderson Silva in 2015 he didn't fight for 6 years until this Saturday. He's completely washed at this point.

Nate Diaz: Didn't have the hype of his brother until he got the opportunity to fight Conor McGregor and submitted him. His popularity exploded after that but after a close decision loss to Conor in the rematch he didn't fight for 3 years. Had 2 fights in 2019, one in 2021 and is currently on a 2 fight skid. Can probably still win some fights but not at a top level.

These guys should have been major PPV stars in the UFC and made millions of dollars over the past decade. What happened?

I do not know about Nate, but it seem to me Nick got older and lost the passion to fight professionally. Not saying he does not enjoy martial arts, but going out there and compete in MMA.

Nick got sick of the commissions and the wrestle fucking and hated to fight and wanted more money to get hit in the head..... also the ufc seems like they always wanted to embarrass nick and always wanted to throw him in to get wrestle fucked..... nick should have been a huge ppv star but that isn't what the ufc wanted to do with him.

I don't see how you can equate Nick and Nate. Nate has been making millions. Losing doesn't mean wasting; he just wasn't able to win those fights. And before Conor he didn't have the clout to make big bucks.

TS is a Diaz hating troll.

Very few fighters from 06-12 were making big money outside of champions, and neither one was quite UFC championship material.

Both fought a LOT. 2-3x/yr for many years.

Nick made SF champion money - pretty good. Probably the best thing he could have done. He wasn't making LW and he was never beating GSP.

Nate won TUF, kicked a lot of ass between then and RDA, but also wasn't quite tip top. He made some serious negotiation mistakes, probably shouldn't have gone up to 170, but financially he certainly made up for it the last 5 years.

These two guys were top earners of their eras. Not Jon Jones money, so let's say top 5-10%, not top 1%

They both did fine. Neither one wasted shit. TS is an ignorant troll.

But we are happy Nate got paid these few years, since Conor 1.

If that's the case what was stopping him from ducking wrestlers and waiting for strikers? My understanding is that the UFC is obligated to offer these guys 3 fights a year. There should have been at least one favorable matchup in the past 6 years. If not he could have called someone out and created fan interest for the fight.

Also if I recall Nate Diaz was offered a title shot against Tyron Woodley at one point. He should have fucking taken that fight, best chance he would ever have to win a title. Low output counter striker who doesn't like pressure and is easily backed against the cage.

Nate didn’t. He’s had several big pay days and part of the appeal is the way he stepped away and said FU

I’ve said it a million times.

Nick Diaz had terrible management. He should’ve fought in pride LW division. He would’ve been the champion there. No one at LW would’ve beaten him.

he already dusted up Gomi and finished him and would’ve done the same to the rest of the division.

Utter nonsense. The height of Nick Diaz's popularity was when he was fighting Condit and GSP. He quit the sport after that, save for one fight against Silva. The height of Nate's popularity was the 2 fights with Conor. He took 3 years away from the sport after that. Both of these guys wasted their mma prime, which for most fighters is the early 30s. Now Nick is completely washed and Nate probably not far from it.

Nick only fought in MMA to survive, aka needed money, from what I recall. I don't ever think he ever really cared about optimizing to that extent.

But yeah, he wasted almost of his best years

Nate literally has been a major PPV star and has made millions of millions of dollars.

He sold out headlining Madison Square Garden for an imaginary belt he forced the UFC to create for him.

He is a self-made multimillionaire, you are a jabroni going to work for a living.

Nate has made way better money than anyone ever expected so I don't think he wasted his prime money wise... would be a lot more competitive at 155 though

But yeah Nick left millions on the table, then right around the time it's too late and he's done he goes broke and needs to come back lol

Nate did a great interview with Ariel a while ago explaining how he got to where he is marketing-wise... he is one of the few guys that understand the pro wrestling side of the sport... the Conor callout and all the shit he did to become a star was planned. He is MUCH smarter than people give him credit for.

He's only headlined a single card since the Conor fights. I may be a jabroni who goes to work every Monday through Friday, but if I became a star through being a late notice replacement on a card I would have made bigger moves than he has. The guy turned down a title fight for fucks sake.

He wasn't anywhere near as compliant as Conor. So Dana threw him to all the opponents that'd destroy his record. I mean, you see how an easy road goes when you're in the good graces of the UFC compared to when they want to see you fail. If Nick wasn't such a huge fan-favorite, Dana would've cut him and Nate loose a long time ago. Who wants a fighter that publicly complains non-stop and only wants to fight once every three years with a horrible record but acts like they're the king?
