OMG! <Ellaria01>

Doesn't he realize that there aren't enough votes to do this? He doesn't have the numbers. He hasn't consulted grassroots organizations. He didn't put justice dems on committees.

He is going to cause undue pressure with this STUNT. This is nothing more than a circus. He needs to do what the establishment says until we get more progressives in congress.

Putting it up for a recorded vote and have members of congress on record to voting against it isn't important.

Biden wants Neera Tanden more than he wants $15 minimum wage. Even if 60% of Americans want it, the rest of congress is against it. This is not how we build a coalition.

Bernie has become so toxic.<1><{MingNope}>{<doc}<bball1>

Where was Bernie on the original force the vote?

Senate Budget Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) says Democrats should “ignore” the recent ruling of the Senate parliamentarian and is vowing to force the Senate to vote this week on an amendment to set the federal minimum wage at $15 an hour.

Sanders on Monday declared he would not back down on his signature wage initiative after Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled last week that a provision setting the federal minimum wage at $15 an hour would not be eligible under special budget rules Democrats are using to avoid a filibuster while passing their coronavirus relief bill.

“My personal view is that the idea that we have a Senate staffer, a high-ranking staffer, deciding whether 30 million Americans get a pay raise or not is nonsensical. We have got to make that decision, not a staffer who’s unelected, so my own view is that we should ignore the rulings, the decision of the parliamentarian,” Sanders told reporters.

Sanders added, “Given the enormous crises facing this country and the desperation of working families, we have got to as soon as possible end the filibuster.”

“We cannot have a minority of members define what the American people want,” he said.

Sanders said he will force a vote on an amendment raising the federal minimum wage this week.

“To the best of my knowledge, there will be a vote on the minimum wage, and we’ll see what happens,” he said. “I intend to offer the bill that will raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour, and we’ll see how the votes go.”

“If we fail in this legislation, I will be back,” he warned. “We are going to keep going.

“We are going to raise that minimum wage very shortly to $15 an hour,” he said.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), another leading Senate progressive, on Monday said she favors a vote to overrule the parliamentarian.

“I agree,” she said.

But Warren said the Senate filibuster rule, which requires 60 votes to pass most controversial legislation, is the biggest obstacle facing President Biden’s agenda.

“Understand, the only reason that we're in this mess is because of the filibuster. If we would get rid of the filibuster, then we wouldn't have to keep trying to force the camel through the eye of the needle,” she said.

“Instead, we would do what the majority of Americans want us to do, and in this particular case, that's raise the minimum wage,” she added.

Bernie says force means he will do whatever the DNC or big business tells him to do.

Not enough Dems want it. If they did they’d just fire the parliamentarian and be done with it.

If they actually wanted it they wouldn't have carved it out of the relief bill they just passed.

LOL at the "good for him" comments.

Subtext seems to be lost.

Wages need to rise but minimum wage laws are the wrong way to go about it - particularly a hike of this magnitude. We’d all be better served to focus on laws and regulations that increase the competitive value of American labor. But doing that would go against other progressive and/or establishment dem priorities (and some republicans ones as well) so instead we get this performative virtue tug-o-war that isn’t going anywhere as it would have pols on the hook for the next four years in news stories about every mom and pop coffee shop/pizza parlor/used bookstore that goes under because of the law.

I wonder if $15 an hour minimum wage would have any positive impact. That’s just over 30k a year working full time and I’d have a hard time seeing someone live off that.

Funny the same people who cry the loudest about higher wages and housing prices are the same people who never want to stop legal and illegal immigrants which have made Americans expendable and increased competition for housing. Leftist claim they want higher wages, affordable housing, free healthcare free this free that but have a meltdown when anyone suggests maybe we dont let in as many immigrants. It seems like race/ and immigration are more important than the other list of issues they say they care about.

bernie....
-hires campaign staffers
-campaigns on mandating all companies/businesses to pay a living wage
-campaign staffers demand $15/hour
-complies with $15/hour and lays off campaign staffers and/or cuts hours

be like bernie

Um, immigration increases wages and total value produced. Looking at the evidence here causes your whole theory to fall apart.
