First off let’s think about why techniques are made illegal in MMA:

-They could be dangerous to a fighters overall health and well being

-They could give an unfair advantage

-They could be inhumane/against the law

Now let’s think about whether calf kicks fall into any of those categories. After 5 seconds of thinking you should’ve realized it does not fall into any of those categories.

-Calf kicks are not dangerous to a fighter’s long term health and well being. They are painful and make it hard to stand on the affected leg for a short time, but there is no long term trauma. Calf kick pain is recoverable.

-Calf kicks do not give an unfair advantage. There are counters and defenses to this technique. The sport of kickboxing has evolved past calf kicks already, and now train for them.

-Calf kicks are not inhumane or against the law.

For those who say “calf kicks should be illegal”, you’re either a salty fan who’s favorite fighter just lost via calf kicks, or you’re a casual fan who doesn’t watch MMA for technique or evolution of the sport.

I was under the impression that a calf stomp, not kick, risks breaking the bone if a fighter has their full weight planted on their lead leg

If anyone's complaining, then they're just the handful of Conor fans left on the site. Having fighters get to a point where they have to watch what they say to other fighters, telling them so many techniques are banned, etc. are defeating the purpose of this being the fight game. Let them bang, bro.

Calf kicks being so effective in MMA just reflects the subpar level of striking in the sport.

Then again, a guy who’s never properly thrown a jab like Ngannou is getting a title shot so...

<{cruzshake}>
So,how do you defend them, especially when your opponent is a good grappler as well?

It's a ridiculous notion... I mean, you are allowed to kick or knee or elbow your opponent into the face... but calf kicks should be banned? LOL

For one thing, MMA fighters need to stop exaggerating motion when checking kicks in general. A slight pivot is all you need.

Most strikes are so telegraphed in MMA it’s ridiculous.

But Sherdog told me calf kicks can't be checked!!!1!1!

Are there actually that may people bitching about them? ( I haven't been on the forum as much lately)
It all comes from the Rivera vs Munhoz fight where Bisping made sort of a joke about it and they went with it, but nothing real or on sherdog prior to that, more like Bisping planted the seed but it was a joke, i think.

Make it an even fall for both the striker and grapper

No calf-kicks? Ok, no neck-cranks LoL

Just kidding, dont add more rules dammit!

These will go away, its just the hot thing to do right now.
