Jared Gordon Plans to Begin New UFC Deal with Finish of Dan Moret in Minneapolis

After tearing his hamstring in his last fight, Jared Gordon will return to take on Dan Moret at UFC Minneapolis on Saturday.

“Flash” is coming off of a knockout loss to Joaquim Silva at UFC on Fox 31 this past December, but he did get a new contract after the fight. Getting that deal helped lessen the sting of defeat.

“It was actually the last fight on my contract and I put on a great performance, won ‘Fight of the Night.’ I was winning on the scorecards, but I tore my hamstring in the last 20 seconds of the second round. So, when I went into the third round, it started to go the other way,” Gordon explained to Sherdog.com. “I couldn’t put much weight on my right leg, so I couldn’t move that well. I put on a great fight, and I got a new contract out of the deal. I was obviously devastated. The whole point is to win, but over time I was able to look at it all and accomplished my goal of getting a new contract. It has made me a better fighter.”

Gordon plans to return to the win column against Moret at UFC on ESPN 3.

“He is a tough guy. Due to his performances in the UFC, people look past him. He has a pretty high submission rate so he brings more to the plate than people realize,” Gordon said. “I see me beating him up on the feet, getting a takedown, beating him up on the ground until the fight is over.”

Even though Moret is 0-2 in the UFC, “Flash” is not underestimating his opponent.

“He is 0-2 in the UFC, but that doesn’t show how good or bad he is. It is the UFC and everyone is tough,” he concluded. "He fought Gilbert Burns on short notice, who is a monster, and he lost to Alex White in a super close fight. I’m just focused on winning and getting back into the win column.”
