Bellator 155-Pound Champ Brent Primus Issues Apology for Michael Chandler Rematch Cancellation

Tuesday night MMA Fighting reported that Bellator MMA lightweight champion Brent Primus had to withdraw from his much-anticipated rematch against Michael Chandler.

A knee injury put Primus out of commission for Bellator 197, and while many are upset about the fallout of the match, none more than the lightweight himself, who issued an apology on social media Wednesday.

“There's not a man in this world that I would rather fight than Michael Chandler. It's going to happen sooner than later!” – Bellator Lightweight Champion Brent Primus

Primus claimed 155-pound gold at Bellator 180 last June when Chandler suffered a nerve injury in the first round of their bout. He hasn’t defended the title since that victory.

Chandler last saw action against Goiti Yamauchi at Bellator 192. His win over Yamauchi seemed to set up the rematch that has now fallen through. Chandler will instead face Brandon Girtz at Bellator 197 on April 13 in St. Charles, Missouri. Girtz last fought at Bellator 190, where he defeated Luka Jelcic in the first round.
