Rafael dos Anjos

Rafael dos Anjos’ name hasn’t really been mentioned in the tidal wave of talk regarding Conor McGregor’s next bout. But, now the former lightweight champ has taken steps in an effort to change that.

Talk about McGregor’s next bout

Ever since McGregor was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov last October, speculation about the star’s next bout has been rampant. McGregor has pushed for a rematch with Nurmagomedov, but due to Tony Ferguson’s 12 fight winning streak, the plan is to have “El Cucuy” fight Khabib next.

So where does that leave McGregor? Well, the former lightweight and featherweight champ has expressed an interest in fighting Ferguson, Frankie Edgar, and Donald Cerrone. But, recently it was reported that Cerrone is the front-runner for the controversial star’s next opponent.

RDA calls out McGregor

Well, as noted above, recently dos Anjos threw his name into the mix, by sharing out the comments below:

Don’t give this guy a tune up fight, give him real contender at 170 , 165 or 155. I’m in all the way @danawhite @seanshelby

So, this is an interesting move by RDA, but, it would be kind of surprising if this fight happens. Dos Anjos has been competing at 170, and not 155 lately. Further, RDA is coming off a decision loss to Leon Edwards in July. In addition, a bout between Cerrone and McGregor would almost certainly pull much bigger numbers.

Now, does that mean it wouldn’t be a fascinating match-up? No. No it doesn’t. You may recall that dos Anjos and McGregor were booked to fight back in 2016, when RDA was the 155 champ, but he had to withdraw due to a broken foot.
