Fedor Emelianenko

Bellator announced this weekend that it’s signed Fedor Emelianenko to a contract extension, and after Bellator 222, Scott Coker discussed his plans for “The Last Emperor”.

After the 42-year-old Emelianenko was quickly put away by Ryan Bader in January, there was lots of discussion and debate, as to whether the Russian star would hang up the gloves. Well, during the post-Bellator 222 presser, Coker was asked about the possibility of Fedor fighting “Rampage” Jackson. Bellator’s president said this (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“There’s a couple of fighters that come to my mind,” Coker said. “But it’s a multi-fight, multi-year deal, and this is going to be his retirement tour.

“I would like to take him to a lot of countries and cities that haven’t seen him in a long time, or have never seen him. It’s going to be fun when we roll this thing out.”

It will be interesting to see what comes next for Fedor, and don’t be surprised if a bout with Jackson materializes. They are two of the biggest, most accomplished names on Bellator’s roster, so making that fight seems like a no brainer. A fight with Josh Barnett is also probably on the list.

Emelianenko faced Bader in the heavyweight grand prix finals, after stopping Frank Mir and Chael Sonnen.
