Sissoko, who has seen his fortunes turn round at the club in recent weeks, was delighted to have made the trip to see the children.

The Frenchman said on Twitter: 'I am lucky to be able to make the children smile with my job. Thanks for your wonderful smiles and I wish you a merry Christmas in advance.'

With their place cemented in Europe and Spurs third in the Premier League, the club will be desperate to maintain the place in the top four once the hectic Christmas period is over.

Spurs are set to play five league games in the run up to new year's day while a tasty Carabao Cup tie with Arsenal has also been added in to their packed fixture list.

Having faced the Gunners, Southampton and Leicester in the space of a week, Spurs will now turn their attentions to Burnley who will visit Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

A win could bring Spurs to within two points of champions Manchester City and three of league leaders Liverpool.
