At the ceremony, the president was awarded with an incredible painting which included pictures throughout his life at the club, as well as some of the trophies he won.
At Bayern Munich's annual AGM meeting Hoeness said: 'For me the club always had to have people at the centre and this is what I tried to do.
'It was a wonderful time. I say to you that's it. I am done and thank you.'
A World Cup winner and European Champion with Germany, Hoeness scored 108 goals in 329 matches for Bayern Munich.
In a career that also saw him win three Bundesliga titles, a German Cup and three consecutive European Cups, Hoeness' career was cut short by injury at the young age of 27.
Hoeness stayed at the Bavarians however as he moved to a behind-the-scenes general manager role where he helped improve the indebted club's financial state and turned them into Germany's most successful team.

During the ceremony which took place at the club's annual assembly it was announced that board member Herbert Hainer was to be elected as the new president, while Hoeness would become the club's honorary president.
