Real Madrid 'want guarantees from PSG' of Neymar's foot injuries being completely healed as they prepare to complete stunning move for Brazilian under Barcelona's nose

  • Real Madrid are gathering evidence on Neymar's troubled history of injuries
  • The £198m attacker has been battling persistent issues with his metatarsal
  • Real want him this summer but are reportedly 'seeking assurances' from PSG
  • Barcelona tried to re-sign forward but so far negotiations have reached impasse

Real Madrid 'are seeking assurances' from Paris Saint-Germain over Neymar's injury-prone feet before pressing ahead to sign him this summer.

Spanish publication MARCA report that Real have gathered vast information on Neymar's injury history and they 'acknowledge his fragility' over the course of a season.

But while the club are keen to prize the £198million star out of Paris, it appears further guarantees are needed before the club consider a world-record investment to get him.

Neymar missed the entirety of Brazil's Copa America success in the summer after picking up a leg injury in a pre-tournament match against Qatar.

He has returned to fitness now, training with his team-mates but continues to be of interest to both Real Madrid and Barcelona before the European transfer window closes on September 2.

Reports in Spain have detailed that the fitness issue is the main talking point between the two clubs after Real sent a delegation to Paris to 'open negotiations' over a deal, trying to steal a march on rivals Barcelona.

January 2016: A thigh problem at Barcelona sees him drop out of the team. He sits out two games.

March 2017: His trouble with muscle injuries flares up but the club keep it under control. He misses one game.

February 2018: A metatarsal fracture is one of his most serious injuries at this stage in his career. Out for 90 days, he misses 16 games for PSG.

The La Liga giants are understood to be have a much healthier financial position than bitter rivals Barca, and would be able to accommodate the arrival of Neymar onto their wage bill.

Reigning French champions PSG are now willing to sell the forward after his dismissive attitude about staying in Paris, but will demand closer to €250million (£228m) for their prized asset before sanctioning a sale.

It was reported on Thursday that Madrid can afford any move because brand sponsorship brings Neymar £24m per year.

Also, he would effectively pay part of his salary as Real receive 50 per cent of image rights, according to AS who ran the headline 'Madrid Count the Bills' with the player pictured atop a mound of cash.

It is also outlined that the total wage bill of an club cannot exceed 70 per cent of operating income.

Barcelona have skyrocketed to 77 per cent and Real are only at 57 per cent, meaning they have the financial wiggle room to bring Neymar in.

Neymar has played no part in PSG's opening two Ligue 1 games and it remains unclear if he will ever play for the club again.

His father has started following Sergio Ramos on social media in what appeared to be another less than subtle nod and wink towards Real Madrid.

But the club do not want to be drawn into an open battle for the Brazilian only for Neymar to then publicly reject Madrid's interest and then use that rejection as a way of winning favour again with the Barcelona public.
