Derek McInnes has a chance after success with Aberdeen and working with Derby on deals for Max Lowe and Graeme Shinnie.

Derby owner Mel Morris has started sounding out potential appointments and would like to get a manager in quickly, with players due back for pre-season training on Monday.

The Rams were subject to an approach for Lampard this week from Chelsea and have allowed him to speak with his former side in a deal which would see them pocket £4m compensation.

Whoever replaces Lampard has a tough act to follow, with Derby only just missing out on promotion to the Premier League last term following defeat by Aston Villa in the play-off final.
