Riyad Mahrez insists his hard work is paying off after he scored his first two goals for Manchester City in Saturday's 5-0 thrashing of Cardiff.

The Algerian winger arrived at the Etihad Stadium from Leicester in a £60million summer deal, but insists he has not found it tough adapting to life under Pep Guardiola.

Speaking after the victory in south Wales, Mahrez said: 'It's not been a tough time for me. When you arrive at a big club you have to adapt to the style.

'The manager has helped me a lot, and in the last two weeks, I have felt a lot better. 


'You can see that on the pitch. I never complain, I just work hard in training, and it's paying (off) now. But I have to keep going – scoring is not a final thing.

'The style of play is different, but I stayed at Leicester for nearly five years and knew I would need time to adapt at a new club like City.'

It has been a near-perfect start to the Premier League season for Guardiola's men, having won five and drawn one of their six matches.

Their only slight stumble came against top-flight new boys Wolves in a 1-1 draw, while their five wins have produced a huge 18 goals in their favour.
