Sportsmail understands Bowyer is the man to placed in temporary charge, with club captain Johnnie Jackson expected to act as his No 2. Bowyer’s appointment could come as soon as Thursday.

Owner Roland Duchatelet has not attended a match at The Valley for more than three years. The controversial Belgian has been in discussions over selling the club for some time.
Charlton, who were last in the Premier League in 2007, are five points adrift of a play-off spot with a game in hand.
