Al-Ittihad are focusing on a deal for Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante as they close in on the signing of Karim Benzema.

Benzema is likely to sign for the Al-Ittihad after it was confirmed that he is leaving Real Madrid.

Kante could join his former France team-mate Benzema at the Saudi Arabian club, according to journalist Rudi Galetti.

32-year-old Kante has just one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

It remains to be seen whether he will be part of new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino's plans.

The report states that talks between Al-Ittihad and Kante's camp started days ago and the aim is for an agreement to be reached as soon as possible.

With Cristiano Ronaldo already at Al-Nassr, there could be further stars heading to Saudi Arabia this summer. Lionel Messi, for instance, is reportedly set to sign for Al-Hilal.

Al-Ittihad, who are managed by former Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo, won the Saudi Pro League this season at the expense of Ronaldo's Al-Nassr.

Kante made just seven Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season as he was heavily affected by injuries.

There is likely to be a significant overhaul of the Chelsea squad during Pochettino's first summer in charge.

Kante signed for Chelsea from Leicester in 2016 and has gone on to play 269 times for the Blues, scoring 13 goals.

He has won the Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Europa League at the club.
