Borussia Dortmund have been forced to defend the visit of a hairdresser the day before their crushing 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.

The Bundesliga leaders were soundly beaten on Wednesday night in the first leg of their Champions League knockout clash with Spurs, leaving them with a mountain to climb at the Westfalenstadion.

And newspapers in Germany have blamed a series of haircuts on Tuesday for the team's lack of focus.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke rubbished these claims, but admitted the incident will be looked at.

“It certainly has no influence on a team’s performance. There are sporting reasons for our defeat, and we need to analyse them,” Watzke told BILD.

“It’s clear the defeat also leads to a critical media view of the hairdresser’s visit. And that’s why [sporting director] Michael Zorc and [squad manager] Sebastian Kehl will review this with the players.”

A well-taken finish from Heung-Min Son and a flying volley from the impressive Jan Vertognhen set Mauricio Pochettino’s men on the way to a memorable win at Wembley.

And Fernando Llorente stepped off the bench to head home Christian Eriksen’s corner with five minutes remaining to give Spurs one foot in the quarter-finals.
