The Portugal midfielder has impressed for the Toffees and Spurs are hoping to hijack their permanent move for him

Tottenham are planning to pinch Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes from under the noses of Everton, according to reports.

The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Goodison Park from the Nou Camp, and has impressed with a number of strong performances for the Toffees.

Everton are hoping to land the Portugal international in a permanent deal at the end of the season when his loan expires.

But, according to The Sun, Tottenham are looking to steal Gomes away from the Merseyside club.

Chairman Daniel Levy is fighting tooth and nail to cling on to manager Mauricio Pochettino – who has been linked with the Manchester United and Real Madrid jobs.

And having failed to bring in a single new player in the previous summer transfer window, the Spurs chief is now ready to back the boss in the transfer market and will reportedly sanction a deal for Gomes.

The Barca midfielder has been widely linked with a permanent move to Everton thanks to his impressive form.

But it is claimed he is ready to delay a transfer to Merseyside as Spurs look to swoop in.

It’s clear Tottenham would be a more attractive move for the 25-year-old Portuguese star.

Spurs this week booked their place in the Champions League last 16, and are on course to qualify for the competition against next season with them currently sitting third in the Premier League table.

Everton, meanwhile, sit only one point below Manchester United in seventh place, although they face a tough task of breaking in the Premier League’s top six on a long-term basis.
