Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri plays down contract fears amid links with Arsenal and Chelsea jobs

Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri has played down concerns over his new contract - amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

Sarri has worked wonders with Napoli this season and the side sit second in Serie A with nine games to go.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly tracking the 59-year-old in case they need to appoint a new boss in the summer, with the futures of both Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte in doubt.

Sarri’s current contract at Napoli has a £7million release clause and expires in June 2020.

As a result, the Italian is in talks over fresh terms but there is still no agreement in place.

However, Sarri has eased Napoli fans’ fears over his future but insisting there have been no issues in negotiations so far.

“It’s a false problem, the contract is there and we need to understand whether all the conditions are too,” Sarri told reporters in Italy.

“These fans are great and I always want to give 100 per cent, if I don’t feel able to do that then I’ll take a step back, otherwise we’ll continue.

“I was in Serie B four years ago, I can’t feel worried. I’m honoured to be close to a team that has been winning for seven years.

“The Neapolitans fan base has no equal, you go on the pitch and you receive something that is much more than emotional.

“I feel a great debt, and the only way I know to repay it is to give my best.”
