Activision and Treyarch made waves throughout the video game world when they took the wraps off the newest Black Ops game during a preview event held in Los Angeles last week. Black Ops 4 represents the biggest shift in focus ever seen from title to title in the history of the Call of Duty franchise. The biggest change is the absence of a single player campaign mode, a rumor that was finally confirmed onstage at the preview event by Treyarch. Multiplayer and cooperative modes are the sole focus of the development team this time around. While at the preview event, the Shacknews street team got some time to chat with David Vonderhaar, Design Director at Treyarch, and he explained many of the big changes coming to Black Ops 4.

Vonderhaar goes over the revamped Zombies Mode, the new Specialist characters, an overhaul of the healing mechanics, and teases some info on Blackout, the new battle royale mode. We asked about the Nintendo Switch, but Vonderhaar simply offered a "no comment." PC players should make note that Black Ops 4 will be the first Call of Duty title that will not be appearing on Steam. Instead, the game will be hosted via the Blizzard App and Battle.net. Publisher Activision owns the Call of Duty franchise and Blizzard, so it makes sense to leverage the resources at their disposal. The company’s loot shooter sequel Destiny 2 appeared on Battle.net last fall.
