In a partnership with Fantastico Studio and Cannibal Holocaust director Ruggero Deodato, Cannibal is the next entry in the controversial director's Cannibals saga.

In the press release, Cannibal will be an interactive horror adventure game directed and written by Deodato and feature original drawings from Solo Macello. Utilizing the Unity engine, you will control different characters and uncover the story that led this group to the Borneo jungles. Also, from Deodato's track record, it will probably feature intensely graphic scenes.

"Meeting the Fantastico Studio guys offered me the opportunity to return to those atmospheres, to those themes, but trying something new," says Deodato regarding the upcoming game Cannibal. "Contaminating my world with the video games language is a new challenge, making the story interactive opens up many new possibilities and I hope it will also help to bring young people closer to my narrative universe."

The themes Deodato mentions is described in the press release as "natives' lives, told in its rawness and cannibalism, powerful metaphors that reveal the most disturbing and deep impulses in our society."

For those unaware, Ruggero Deodato is the director of the incredibly controversial Cannibal Holocaust film. Released in 1980, the film is regarded as a pioneer of sorts of the found footage genre. The documentary style of the film would influence films like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. It is also known for its snuff film allegations and multiple on-screen animal deaths. As such, the film was banned in several countries. This led to alternate versions of the film, mostly cutting footage of animal death and sexual violence.

Personally, when I saw this announcement, I legitimately said out loud, "uhhh, what?" I would never imagine Deodato would continue this "saga" in the video game medium, but here we are.

Cannibal is slated to launch November 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices.
