Migrant caravan faces obstacles, but border walls are not new

A fortified border, added personnel and a new technology have slowed the movement of asylum seekers over the past two decades.

Stopping asylum seekers from crossing into the United States was a major plank of Donald Trump‘s election campaign and to stop the migrant caravan moving its way up from Latin America, the US has added additional border fortifications.

But not all of it is new; a series of previous administrations had already fortified parts of the frontier. But the smugglers working along the US-Mexico border say that while the walls can slow asylum seekers, people will continue to find ways to cross.
