Gucci has released a £2,050 shirt that looks exactly the famous housecoat worn by Coronation Street favourite Hilda Ogden.

Housewife and cleaner Hilda was portrayed by Jean Alexander from 1964 to 1987, with two guest appearances in 1990 and 1998.

A staple character on the show for over two decades, she was famous for her floral sleeveless overcoat, worn over various vibrant ensembles.

And now Gucci look to have taken inspiration from the British star, creating a shirt that wouldn't be out of place in Hilda's closet - except that it will set buyers back thousands of pounds.

The Italian designer crafted the shirt, which features a flower embellished bodice and their trademark 'quilted' checked sleeves and pockets, describing it as an  flower embellished 'oversize printed quilted bowling shirt '.

Extra detail includes mother of pearl buttons and an eye-catching star sign-inspired patchwork design to the back.

Gucci writes: 'Debuted on the Fall Winter 2019 runway, the quilted overshirt plays with contrasting prints that create a colourful patchwork effect. 

'The sportswear and outerwear worlds collide in this new style – the distinctive features of a bowling shirt are transformed into an exaggerated design that can be worn as a maxi shirt or a jacket, resulting in a contemporary layering game of motifs and fabrics.

'Quilted cotton with spring flowers print front, Zodiac print back and check print sleeves and pockets'.

Jean Alexander, whose last appearance on the show was in 1988, died in 2016, aged 90.

For her role in the soap she she won the Royal Television Society Award for best performance in 1985, and a 1988 BAFTA TV Award nomination for Best Actress. 

The British actress also starred in Last of the Summer Wine from 1988 to 2010.
