Schoolboy, 15, fights for his life after 'two men' stabbed him 'with an eight-inch carving knife on his way home from classes'

A schoolboy has been critically injured after being stabbed with an 'eight-inch carving knife' on the streets of south-east London yesterday evening.

The victim, who has not been named, is thought to be in a critical condition in a south London hospital.

Police have launched a manhunt for the attackers - said to be two much older men - who stabbed the 15-year-old at around 4.10pm on Monday, on Dartmouth Road, Lewisham.

One eyewitness who spoke to Mirror Online said the boy was attacked in his school uniform while with his friends.

She said: 'There were a group of school kids, boys and girls, sitting on a brick wall outside the job centre.

'Two much older men stabbed the kid in his side.

'They left the knife in him and ran down the high street towards Forest Hill station.

'The boy pulled the knife out of his side and threw it across the street. He tried to run but only made it 50 yards before he collapsed on the street.

'The knife was a huge carving knife around eight inches long.'

No arrests have been made.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: 'Police were called at approximately 16:10hrs on Monday, 25 March to reports of a stabbing in Dartmouth Road, SE23. 

'Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a male - believed aged 15 - suffering injuries. 

'He was taken to a south London hospital where he remains in a critical condition. Next of kin have been informed. A crime scene remains in place.'  

Saturday and Sunday saw six people stabbed in another weekend of bloodshed for London. 

Shopkeeper Ravi Katharkamar, 54, was stabbed in the chest as he opened Marsh Food and Wine in Pinner, north-west London, on Sunday morning.

Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector Simon Stancombe, of the homicide and major crime command, said: 'This was a vicious and unwarranted attack on a completely innocent man.

'Ravi's attacker got away with a few pounds worth of coins, but he leaves behind a family utterly devastated and a close-knit community asking who could do such a thing.'

Mr Katharkamar, who was described by local residents as 'friendly and polite', was found collapsed inside the shop. His attacker fled with a shop till which police are still trying to find.

London Ambulance Service also attended but Mr Katharkamar died at 6.46am.

Six men and two women have been arrested after a man was stabbed to death during a 'disturbance' on a leafy suburban street, police have said.

Avon and Somerset Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of the man, aged in his 30s.

The force received a report of a disturbance at a property on Merlin Drive in Wells, Somerset, involving a number of people at 4.25pm on Saturday.

One of the men died of his injuries at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

The injuries sustained by the other man, also in his 30s, are not life threatening or life changing but he remains in hospital for medical treatment.

A force spokesman said: 'Armed officers were deployed to the scene and assisted their patrol colleagues with carrying out a number of arrests.

'The police helicopter was also used in the operation.

'In total, six men and two women, all from the Somerset area, were detained in connection with the incident and currently remain in police custody.'

A post-mortem examination of the man who died and formal identification will be arranged 'in due course', he said.

Specially trained officers will be providing support to the man's family.

Detective Inspector Alistair Hammett, senior investigating officer, said a full investigation was being carried out into the 'very tragic incident'.

'I appreciate this incident will shock local residents and we are increasing patrols in the area to provide reassurance,' he said.

'At this stage, we believe this to be an isolated incident involving people known to each other.

'A large cordon is in place around the Merlin Drive area and there will be a continuing police presence at the scene for some time while we carry out our enquiries.'

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 101 giving the log 760 of March 25, or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

He was murdered outside a property on the same street that Crimewatch presenter Jill Dando was shot dead outside her home 20 years ago.

The murder of Jodie Chesney, 17, in east London at the beginning of March also shocked the nation, after she was knifed in the back while at a park with friends.

So far four people, Manuel Petrovic, 20, Svenson Ong-a-kwie, 18, and a 16 and 17-year-old boy have been charged with her murder.

They have been remanded in custody ahead of trials later this year.
